You and me Gio can remember a bit further back. Moller, Sammer nor Klinsmann ever lived up to their full potential.

Failure of adaption outside Germany Tren in recent history , Huth failed , Ballack made it , Metzelder didn't
I know the old generations played really well outside Germany but i noticed in recent years that was not the case (or so i think feel free to correct me if i'm wrong man)
Now i get it, but i dont fully agree, as those examples are a bit debatable.

- Huth actually didnt make the move as a pro (he went to england at the age of 15 or 16).
- Metzelder was already semi-finished and very injury prone (he pulled that strong WC 2006 performance out of nowhere actually) ... if Schuster wasnt coach and Metze wasnt for free, he wouldnt have gone to RM. ANd you clearly have to factor that in for your evaluation. ALso idont remember that Dortmund felt that he was a huge loss ...
- Another good example of someone who didnt make it was David Odonkor ... Dortmund is still laughing over Betis paying 5-6M for a player, that was brought to the WC 2006 for a single tactical task and who was hardly usable for anything else.

The thing is that we hardly had a german player (in the past decade) at his peak and with a certain stardom moving to a foreign club. No Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Klose, Podolski, Frings, Mertesacker, Kahn etc. did it. It was mainly Ballack and Lehmann, and both did rather well. Although i never felt like Ballack was a major hit at Chelsea ... maybe solid but no key player.

if they get some decent defenders then why not. but badstuber and demichelis are not good enough for me. even van buyten is not that good.

Well, van Buyten is the worst of the 3. But solid as backup.

Badstuber is ok, he shows a good general understanding of the game b/c he plays efficient and usually takes the right decision, even with his low age and he is a good technical player (on par with Demichelis, much better than vBuyten). He lacks experience and thus makes mistakes. He is also too slow to play as full back (which was obv in the WC vs Serbia and the CL vs United), but he is supposed to play CB, and that is fine with me. Even using Contento as RB is alright, he looks promising due to his pace and technique.

Demichelis is the problem. Ive saw him play on monday vs a 3rd league team in the cup match and he looked shaky. He is also fairly slow and i dunno if a team can get away with 2 slow central defenders. But unless a CL playing club from one of the major leagues shows up, i dont see Bayern getting rid of him. And that prolly has to happen before they get a replacement. That however would fix the only major weakness of the squad imo.

Bayern might wait for Breno to return. The 20 yrs old CB was lend out to Nünrberg last season and had a promising 1st season half before tearing his cruciate ligaments. He is supposed to come back in November and might take over the vacant spot in the center.

Muller was a MoM vs. Roma. In absence of Ribery and Robben, young Muller stepped up again. Scored a wonderful goal to brake the lock.

Great goal. Maybe top three of the first round. Messi's team goal was amazing.

Reminded me of Henry's similar goal in the CL. Can't remember who against though.

it will be interesting to see how van Gaal fits the trio of Ribery-robben-Muller,maybe Muller centrally but he will find less spaces there

good goal but not the goal of the round for me

You forgot Kroos.
It's really a question will Ribery wake up and start playing at his best. Last season's Ribery is not first 11 material.
Still, Van Gall won't have those headaches anytime soon if the prognosis for Robben are correct. No football for him this year.

What a goal...Carlos-esque swirl with the confidence and swagger of Cruyff, beautiful goal.

In terms of the finish, yes. However, in terms of the lead up to a goal, has to be Messi's second against pana. The build up to that was sensational
