Timo Werner

Well he is good , but I am afraid he would be pain to watch in this team where everybidy is slow and don't use counter attacks.

Also you get ball only if Messi is not in good position.

Better for him to go far away from Barca

I don't understand how that is possible. His release clause was set around 60 mil. in January and now dropped to 30? Barcelona by the way are out of the picture. He has already decided to play for Jurgen Klopp.

Whether it’s 30 or 60 he should be our top priority.

Upamecano, Van dee beek and Werner.

All three of them are great players but I doubt Bartomeu and Abidal will even consider them. Their ONLY priority is to bring in Neymar and Martinez.

Van de Beek is far from Barca level, FDJ is struggling while he was the biggest Ajax prospect with MDL. Van de Beek would even struggle more great drive, but technically not gifted enough to improve our midfield.

Yes and No.

FDJ is struggling in Barcelona because he is playing out of position. He is defensive midfielder and was the biggest Ajax prospect playing at that position. But here, Setien wants to play grandpa Busy as a DM , that is why he moved Frenkie more forward and the results are visible.

Van de Beek is attacking midfielder and if he comes to Barcelona will face exactly the same problem as Coutinho faced. That position was self taken from Messi few years ago and till he is still playing, there is no chance any AM can flourish here.Simple as it is.

True. Any success an AM might have with Messi is maybe adapting to a CM role.

FDJ played as a double pivot for both Netherlands and Ajax.
So, it is hard to tell that his best position is a lone pivot because he almost never played at that position.
He played in different formations, always having one guy who can cover his back like Schone at Ajax or De Roon at NT team.

Maybe he will be great as a single pivot, maybe he won't.
He will probably need a CM near to him who is fast, physical and who can cover a lot of ground when Frenkie ventures into attack.

So, our CM would need to be:
1. good at defending to cover for Frenkie
2. and yet awesome in possession and creation since Frenkie is meh in creation and if a CM will be also meh, then we would have 2 midfielders who are meh in creation (which happens with Frenkie-Arthur duo).

So, longterm, we will probably need 2 midfield starters:
1. a versatile CM who can run a lot, defend, create, recycle possession and resist press
2. and a very creative CAM, who can score and create way more than our current midfielders.
Especially since we will suck in post-Messi era and we will struggle to score goals without him.

Can’t help but think this CAM we are desperate for in midfield could be Coutinho. Wasn’t a fan of him here at all but in terms of goals he can score in and outside the box, make assists, key passes, good in tight areas and link up play.

But we decided to shove him at LW then his poor performances affected him mentally. I’d probably give him another chance even though I wanted rid of him after that first spell, haven’t followed him at Bayern at all though, seen on here people saying he’s been underwhelming. At Liverpool he was great though, the reason we paid (overpaid) so much for him.

If you have seen my proposed XI, I have placed FDJ and A.Melo as a pivots, but then realized that Arthur does not play defense at all. For that reason, I will replace him with Kante or Soumare which are solid at defense. So we will have two defensive midfields with Leo as CAM. Once he retire, then we have to find one solid play-maker of Iniesta or De Bruyne type.
