those are 4 players..

4 players with 19m in combined wages.

Madrid has managed to sell Higuain, Callejon and Albiol for 70% of what they offer for Bale. If they managed to offload Pepe for a great price as well, the transfer is financed already with no extra outlays.

lol, insane. Besides RM would be better off with Suarez then Bale. Imo bale wouldn't really add much to that time that they haven't already while Suarez would.

Bale has a huge star status in England. Even if he flops in Madrid, they can easily sell him to some rich English club for 60-70m.

Its not only the quality of the player that is taken into account when bidding. The potential for income generation is just as important.

Pretty similar to us investing in Neymar. Even if he flops, which I don't expect him to, we will still recoup a large portion, if not all of the transfer fee, because of his age and marketability.

I'm not suggesting that RMA buying Bale for 100m is a good idea though. It smacks of PANIC BUY, if you ask me. :shakeshead:

I dont think it is that insane considering we paid 120m for Ibra, Chygrynskiy, Henrique and Keirrison.

1-That was 4 years ago
2-those are one of the reasons we have a more reserved signings and transfer budget ,they were insane deals who was extremely stupid ,a gr8 sport director like Txiki had his reputation tarnished b/c of them
3-Bale deal is even worse ,those were 4 risks ,you can keep saying them but we signed many gr8 deals in those 2 summers(2008&2009) ,if you want to compare it then it should be compared to Ibra deal ,Ibra was even better back then ,had even more market value and had the same risks coming with him as Bale with RM
4-We paid 8M for Henrique (Leverkusen paid 2 more millions ) ,14 for Keirrison ,25 for Chygrynskiy & 66 for Ibra ,a total of 113M
RM is payin 39 for IIIaramendi (when include the tax) and now 100M for Bale
They could have paid both Falcao and Cavani clause with that money ,wtf?

This is a seriously odd one: According to Russian media Zenit are trying to buy the Danish defender Frederik Sørensen from Bologna/Juventus. Apparently they've already had a 10M bid turned down, and are now willing to pay around 12M.
I followed him quite a bit after he had his debut with Juve at the age of 18. He played regularly for a while, but never impressed me much, and was subsequently loaned to Bologna who now own half his rights. I haven't really followed him last season, but he must've done something right in order to warrant a fee like that.

I don't suppose any of our resident italianos have more insight?

1. 4 years ago makes it even worse, as the price level was lower back then.

2. I disagree. Pep was given huge freedoms after his treble winning season and decided to use the summer to get rid of Eto'o for 20m and insist on getting Ibra and Chyg, no matter what the cost. We paid 70m for Ibra, as Inter refused to accept Hleb as part of the deal (who was valued at 5m, another epic transfer, 10 games for 16m euros).

3. Bale has a huge market value, simply because he is a superstar in by far the richest league in the world. This can not be compared to Ibra, who was much older, had a far lower sell-on value and a much lower status among the richest clubs.
