Transfers and Rumours - old thread

1. 4 years ago makes it even worse, as the price level was lower back then.

2. I disagree. Pep was given huge freedoms after his treble winning season and decided to use the summer to get rid of Eto'o for 20m and insist on getting Ibra and Chyg, no matter what the cost. We paid 70m for Ibra, as Inter refused to accept Hleb as part of the deal (who was valued at 5m, another epic transfer, 10 games for 16m euros).

3. Bale has a huge market value, simply because he is a superstar in by far the richest league in the world. This can not be compared to Ibra, who was much older, had a far lower sell-on value and a much lower status among the richest clubs.

I don't agree that Bale has really higher market value ,and don't think he is the type of guy who would sell crazy number of shirts ,Ibra had more market value for us IMO
And again ,you don't get my point ,you say it isn't so insane because they are comparable to "Another insane signings"?? that proves the point ,I am saying that was 4 years ago because we have learned our lesson very well in those 4 year and we aren't doing that anymore ,while RM is on the verge of repeating our own mistake

I dont think they are comparable. Ibra, Chyg, Keirrison and Henrique played a total of 50 games for us, were paid 19m in annual wages and were offloaded for a third of the price we bought them for. I just dont think Bale would be even close to such flop-levels. The money gap between the English and the other leagues will just increase in the coming years because of marketing/globalization/English language, so Madrid will always have filthy rich potential buyers of a player like Bale. Its not such a big financial risk as you make it out to be.

English teams shied from massive deals like Cavani&Falcao after everyone thought they were detained to move there ,they keep talking about globalization yet investors are now exploring other markets like France .
Bale isn't that popular gr8 market player you are making him to be ,those players are either achieved a lot ,not just individually but also team level ,compare what Cr7 achieved by 2009 when he was same age and Bale.not even a comparison .If Bale was playing in Manu or Arsenal ot would have made more sense
the other type of player are those who are really popular and mega stars in their "big market" country ,Like Beckham decade ago(he achieved a lot with his club too) or Neymar now who is really popular in Brazil and has gr8 marketing Value there
I doubt Bale is either tbh
Also we paid 66 for Ibra and sold him for 24 ,that is a total of 42M loss in what we consider the worst deal in our history ,If Bale flopped RM would have to sell him for like 58M to avoid same loss
You think English clubs are fool enough to pay such amount of money of a player who flopped? actually is there is ever a player sold to English club for such amount of money?Only Torres was bought by English club for 58M or more ,Tevezis the only other player that a club paid more than 50 for him
The risk is huge ,and look at Real Madrid forums in the last couple of months ,most of them don't like the figures they are offering and think it is insane too and would have been wise to use it on some other players

Ibra deal was far worse than just the loss of 50m (we paid 70m, not 66m and I'm pretty sure we paid some of his wages when at Milan as well as we always part pay the wages of our loaned out players). We offloaded Eto'o for 20m, dramatically weakened our own team and strengthened our CL rival who went on to win the whole thing.

11 of the 20 richest teams by income are now English and the trend is just getting bigger and bigger. New TV deal money kicks in, where the English league is able to sell their league everywhere for huge amounts of money. Its a reality. non-English speaking leagues cant compete. Add oil billionaires as well, and the trend is just getting more pronounced. Just look at the situation now. Spanish players are fleeing to England left and right. Unthinkable just a few years ago where no Spanish stars would even think of moving abroad.

Bale for sure will fetch at least 60m, even if he flops a year in Spain. He has proven himself like few others in the English league, and thats where the money is. He is only 24 and will peak in the coming years. When players like Carrol fetches fantasy sums in that league, the sky is the limit for what Madrid could get for Bale.

@barcastuff: Barcelona have decided which centre back they want to sign this summer. It would be a player who at this moment plays in England. [catradio]

no surprise there. my guess is Agger for 30m euros. He ticks the right boxes; close to 30, already at a top 20 rich club and Liverpool games are readily available to watch on TV.

Do you know how loyal Agger is? Together with Gerrard he's the most loyal player Liverpool got.

I hope it's Koscielny, Vertonghen or Luiz.

Is it true that Bale has refused to take part in Tottenham's promotional appearances and training? His move to Madrid might really be happening.

True, it could be Verthongen. Frank de Boer, the Ajax boss, were pleading for us to buy him for 10m when he was available last season, but we ignored it completely, so I wouldnt rule out us paying about 40m for him a year later.
