Trent Alexander-Arnold

If a player already has hit world class level as a back it feels awkward to make a transition to another position. There aren't many wc backs around anyway, and most likely it wouldn't be of benefit to the team nor the player (output-level). But the desire to play more centrally with more responsibility, higher dynamic and more unpredictable environment I totally get. Midfield is the coolest position in football imo.

Hope Arnold would stay as a back. He is such a cool young man, and as a back he has the best option to make most out of his career. Great backs can be counted on two hands and the creme de la Creme the last 30 years... Cafu, Lahm, Carlos, Marcelo, Alves. And then there are guys like Maicon, Zanetti and Cole who are tier lower. He has the talent to get up to peak in stead being just another good to WC midfielder.

How highly is he rated here?

Generally people here consider most English players overrated. Is he considered overrated?

I personally think he is overrated in his whole package.
His delivery of course can be astonishing.
But:
1) He wastes many balls. For every phenomenal delivery he makes he wastes another 5 in failed crosses or passes
2) He is lazy AF in defending. Most dangerous counters result from his side, where he is jogging back when the opposition is running in numbers facing VVD and Matip, or he is even too far away to even jog

Last season he lost many balls, was bad at defending, was kinda lazy, but he improved this season. Maybe fame got to his head, but he is back to his best now.

Point 1 is because our attackers are midgets. Only Jota is good at heading from crosses. Mane, while good in the air never scores from attacking crosses really. Trent's passing and crossing is unquestionably immaculate. Some of the diagonals he pings at Mane are ridiculous

Point 2 his defending is actually very underrated. Klopp was talking about this very myth last week that he doesn't defend. He's not world class at defending but he's alright. We have hardly ever suffered because of his defending.

Last season half the team was injured. So much so that we finished behind United ffs. Trent had his own niggling issues but he was back towards the business end of last season.

Last season everything was dysfunctional.

He's world-class. He's not overrated until you compare him to prime Dani Alves. Pretty weak in defense though.

His productivity as a right back is absolutely ridiculous.

People forget his age. Dude's young af. He's way better than Marcelo and Alves were at his age. If he played for Barca or Real you guys would be fawning over him.

He'll only get better from here. Even his flaws like defensive game are clearly improving.

Alves was a smarter playmaker and a better passer by far, had as much end product, also a thunderous shot, and on top of that, he was a pit bull in defense who was able to shut down peak Cristiano Ronaldo. On top of that, he's the most decorated player in football history.

I struggle to find what Trent does better other than putting in a better cross. Probably nothing.

Trent is better at 21 than Alves was, but it's pretty damn unlikely he'll be better than Alves was at 25-32(ish).

Let TAA learn to defend first before comparing him to Alves. And his offensive output is not on Marcelo's level who dominated games v a really Bayern, Juve and AM in his prime. TAA hasn't yet destroyed that level of opposition.

These are the same people hyping Pedri up to the moon. Their manager compares him to Iniesta already

Meanwhile the young TAA has already won the CL and PL getting appreciation from even the foreign press and is applauded globally.

But Trent won't do what their favourite fancy Brazilian full backs did. Okay Nostradamus.

We'll see if any of these "super talented" and hyped Barca kids achieve half as much by Trent's age. 😂😂

Boring.

The whole reason you started this "how is TAA rated" business is so you had an excuse to give him a public tugging. Calma

Alves got benched by Prime Maicon.

And yeah every Brazilian agreed with that decision.

Prime Maicon was different gravy. Shame he had no longevity after the famous Bale incident. Alves mogs overall obviously.
