Trent Alexander-Arnold

Nah, Trent is crap in defense no doubt. Marcelo was pretty terrible defender too.

That won't matter if Trent will reach Marcelo's clutch-ness in the big games and get close to his offensive arsenal. He's not close as of yet though.

TAA has yet to come close to Marcelo's overwhelming offensive arsenal (best ever for a fullback IMO) in the big CL games.

There's been ties (Bayern, AM) where Marcelo was the most dominant creative force in a team with CR7, Benz, Bale, Modric, Kroos etc.

Yeah, Marcelo had an all time great team around him, but TAA is playing with elite players and an elite manager also. Not like he's dealing with bums.

Which still doesn't disqualify them from playing fullback ;)

Yes, because when you have to deal with Marcelo and Ronaldo in a flank you tend to defend more than you attack.

Very few teams managed to exploit Marcelo's defensive problems. Mostly MSN Barca at the time. And even when we did take advantage of Marcelo's defensive weakness, the goals Madrid scored against us came with his offensive contribution.

I wouldn't say he's crap in defence but it's very clear he's not a natural defender. He was playing as a midfielder his whole time in the Liverpool academy until Klopp turned him into a right back when he promoted him so it's natural that defending isn't his strong point. Klopp wants to use him mainly for offence anyway and trusts the rest of the team to fill in at the back when Trent is in attack, and having Van Dijk and Allison at the back helps massively too.

Trent really is crap defensively. Marcelo was Cafu in comparison.

Some of it is due to effort too. He's kinda lazy defensively. But that can be worked on as Pep did with Cancelo. You can become good enough to not be a liability just by trying harder and working on a couple of things.

Obviously doesn't need to be said how good he is attacking-wise.

what he said

Smart move by Klopp! Bayern did the same thing with Phonzie

If attack is what they need, clubs should sign speedy skilled wingers who can cross and shoot on the cheap & put'em in active duty in the back after a heavy duty defensive training camp.

Better than bidding up the few scarce quality fullbacks on the market

quotes ranging btw 80 to 120 mills. That's just gula gula suga bubble prices

The guy is English, plays for a rich big club, and currently the best RB in the world. There is no way he would leave for just 80mil, his price would be closer to Neymar money, than to 80mil.

Didn't he also say that he would like to become captain one day, don't think he would leave unless Liverpool go back to being shit when Klopp leaves.

He could become captain here immediately if that's what he wants.

Just need to find some Catalan roots in him though.

80m euros is impossible for Trent. Will cost at least triple figures even if he is desperate to come.

If he leaves it'll most likely be towards the end of his contract, due to that exact reason you mention.
