I don't see what the big deal with Verratti may be. Him coming from injury may explain his lack of luster against Chelsea.

The game also reminded me of why I was so viciously against Ibra all those years ago. He is scandalously static, and for these big games, nigh useless. A deflected goal changes absolutely nothing in relation to that.

Rather disappointing performance from PSG against an improving but still not-that-good Chelsea.

The tie is still open.

Shame that Zenit could not last for a couple more minutes.

The point is Chelsea in 2012 were not in poor league form and great in the champions league. They were better in he league than they have been this season and still poor in the CL.

When have Liverpool or AC Milan been winning the CLs while in the bottom half of their domestic league?

The vast majority of teams that do well in the CL are at least in the top 4/5 teams in the league.

Teams dont just transfer from being poor in league to good in CL.

Yeah its all true, I guess im still pissed about 2012 and see them potentially weaseling by again despite it seeming likely.

Veratti is awesome. PSG are pretty much Barcelona lite right now, would like to see them play Bayern actually.

Did you not watch Verratti vs our own team last year? He's clearly capable of playing much better than he did today.
Regarding Ibra though, can't agree more. I recently had some Serie A fanboys arguing that prime Ibra was as good as prime Henry and Suarez which is just mind boggling considering how shit he's been against top teams in the CL all his career

LOL Juvens saying PSG is 3rd best in UCL :rofl1:

I was in a bar with all PSG friends, and I sheered for them with all my heart because I hate chelsea, like I sheered for them against Madrid, but they sure as hell don't have what it takes to be 3rd behind Barça and Bayern, there's still Real Madrid, Juventus and even City I'd say above them.

Another great game, I'm not discussing that, but so many sub-par perfs from players that are supposed to be world class, di maria, pastore, lucas, amongst others ... they're not winning it like this.

City? No way. Only Barca, Bayern, Juventus, Real Madrid, and mayyyyybe Atletico are better.

Chelsea isn't as bad right now as people here make them out to be, their first loss under Hiddink this season.

Meh. They're not winning it this year that much is for sure, the rest I'll leave to Juvens to decide if they're the 1st 2nd or 3rd best in the entire world.

Good game yesterday.. PSG won like I said they will, even predict the score right.. 2-1 PSG.. Chelsea still has their chances in 2nd leg, they score important away goal and 1-0 takes them to quater finals.. I say 0-0 in the second leg..

What did PSG do to get the forum's ire? They won; give credit where it is due. And arguably, PSG is between 3-5 favorites in the Cl after Barça and Bayern.

And they beat Chelsea. So lighten up guys.

They won. They didn't 'beat' (that is, dispose of) Chelsea. The tie is still open.

We're mad they didn't finish the job.

They won't win CL until hire a world-class manager, though they already had ( Ancelotti ) but that time still was not suitable for a good manager to win CL because the project just got started.
They obviously lacking in some tactics to beat high teams , by the way the players' attitude shows not enough ambitious. For me they seem happy just to win league and copa de france and doing cool stuffs off the pitch.

Just like last year, Chelsea are lucky to leave Paris with an away goal. If you look at this game in terms of performance, PSG were superior and probably should have disposed of Chelsea in this match; the door is still a little open for some Chelsea 'flukeyness'.

Regardless, given Chelsea's form in the balance of the season, if PSG play to their capabilities in the second leg, they should have no problems, they are a good side.

My guess is for Benfica to get that away goal in Russia. That will finish St Petersburg. Zenit will need 3 goals for the game. Advance: Benfica

I also think that Chelsea will take it to extra time. Any team could win. I am not convinced that Paris are a team that can win the Champions League. Many of their teeth (Many areas of their game including their fitness) are a bit too blunt for me to see them lift the trophy. At the end of the day they still got 20 shots on goal and I would put my money on PSG scoring an away goal against what is still an unconvincing Chelsea for me post Mourinho.
Advance: Paris

I am excited for us that I do not feel a threat to Barca from any of these 4 teams. Zenit would actually probably be my most feared team from todays teams but they are not looking too good.
or rather. . . . . . We are just that damn good :p

tbf ,that was b4 our team started clicking ,when he played us in the 2nd game in 1/4 finals he was poor .
Verratti is gr8 overall though and probably will be one of the best midfielder of his generation .but people tend to overrate his game a bit for now .
While many won't feel he gets the deserved hype in comparison to other players,I rarely see anyone who points out to his area of weaknesses

I am not saying Verratti is not a good player, but I think that the hype surrounding his name recently has been unjustified. It's not that I watch PSG games all that much, but we seriously had lots of people saying the Verratti would be more desirable than Neymar. This was as recently as last year. In any case, I would give Verratti more attention in the 2nd leg vs Chelsea (and possibly beyond)

As for Ibra, he is very good versus league small fry. In the high intensity games of the CL, Ibra is much more of a liability. For Barca though, he was a liability even against the minor Liga clubs.

Henry himself was not that impressive in big games either (especially CL) but he was definitely a better player than Ibra, with his awesome pace and beautifully curved passing shots. Suarez I would say is less talented (in terms of technique, touch, passing etc) than either of Ibra/Henry. But what Suarez lacks in finesse, he more than makes up for in sheer determination, willpower, stamina and tenacity. Suarez is a rottweiler of a player (pun, honestly not intended)
