I think some people here just don't understand how great Atletico played. Atletico played at a higher level in this tie than any team we've met during the CL campaign of last season. Higher than both Real and Bayern are capable of playing atm.

+ 1000. Even after all those years, AM is still criminally underrated. People refer to them as bus parkers, cheats and thugs yet fail to realize that AM has by far the most cohesive defensive concept European football has to offer. In that regard, and not only in passion, intenity and work ethic, they're above everyone else and not by a small margin.

In other news, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Bayern's retard-in-chief, who thought that Atletico has no place even in the CL-Quarters for not being good enough, now bitches about how they have the hardest draw possible. What a guy. Time for Cholo to teach these peasants a lesson.

definitely gunning for Atleti. by far the most deserving team left: their 3-2 victory over the holding champions is respectable; that Real and Bayern beat freaking Wolfsburg and Benfica 3-2 on aggregate is not. It should have been a blowout in both cases.

True, in my country, which is obsessed with english football, people still think its only a race between Barca and Real in Spain. Well, its a one horse race tbh, but if they are gonna keep saying Real Madrid is in it, they should say the same for Atletico.

Atletico are goddamn gladiators. I hope they destroy Bayern and send them crashing out.

I hope they win it (never thought I would be saying this about a Madrid team) because the way they eliminated us made me gain so much admiration for them.

Their senior players are great, but look at the mentality they instill onto their younger players like Saul, Giminez, Carrasco, Partey, Oblak, etc...Those KIDS play with the same intensity, passion and gladiator attitude as their senior experienced players and it simply amazing.

We used to be like that. :(

While this season isn't a complete failure yet due to our domestic double chances, I can't help but feel upset by Real's presence. Like Barcilliant mentioned, it's clear the players weren't focused enough out there and a more passionate and included Board can rub off onto the team, both positively and negatively depending on the personalities of both parties.

Complacency and "saving ourselves for X" really cost us the chance to do something truly unpresidented. Our lack of depth up top was woefully exposed this season, our midfield still struggles at times with controlling tempo and creating consistent chances and the defense, while improving, needs a facelift.

If we can keep Neymar, and I'm not worried about Messi leaving, there is no reason we can't win another and hopefully defend a CL in the next 2-3 seasons. With a bench box striker (Gamiero please) and some defensive reinforcements, we should be a lot stronger and hopefully have more depth outside of the starting 11.

Lastly, I think it's bullshit Real got City. I had it in my gut that (just like I had that we'd blow it against Atleti) UEFA would make it work for Real now that they are through and sure enough, City with the home tie advantage. I've honestly just had enough with teams, which casually turn out to be our rivals, getting lucky draws while we continually get shit on. Again, our QF draw could not have gone worse. Not only did we have the home tie disadvantage, we also drew the most in form team in Europe at the time. I won't spell it out any further but there have been plenty of instances (and you'll know which seasons I'm referring to if you've been a fan for more than the last two seasons) where this has happened to us in the past. Sure, we've had a lucky CL campaign with draws here and there (2008-2009 was maybe our "easiest" CL campaign in recent memory) but we get shit on far more than when we do. Against the big teams we've faced, very rarely have we enjoyed the home tie advantage and we rarely lose when we do (only thing that comes to mind was that bullshit semi 2nd leg against Inter in 2009 and again, Bojan and a volcano).

So that's why enough with these pussy ass random drawings every round that are just really fishy to me, after the 16s the teams should be seeded off of goal differential over the entire tournament. That way, the team that is truly the best in the tournament at each round gets rewarded for doing so. They used to have it that then tree was set after the quarter finals and I liked that a lot more than these random draws at every round. The goal differential system would just then be a twist on the old drawing system. I get it for groups and the 16s but I really don't like it afterwords.

At least with a system like mine, it's more clear that the best team in Europe won the competition, not the team that could win the lottery the most.

You do realize that RM has the best goal differential and most points if it was a league based system? Nobody in the world pounds inferior teams like Ronaldo and Co do,so this system of yours would only benefit RM even more. And yeah Real is lucky with draws but stop overreacting. We also drew ATM last season just like you did this season. All of a sudden City is a weak team even tho you drew them every fcking year. Just look at Sport's covers. When you drew them it was City, trap for Barca. And this year it's shit about Real getting lucky,Figo touched City etc. Real drew BVB,ATM,Bayern and Juve in last few years. Stop embarrassing yourself with stuff like RIGGED etc. It happens, sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't. Last few years you constantly drew City and PSG who were newborns in the UCL,getting the hang of it.

Except all teams play each other in league systems, while in cup competitions sheer luck determines whether you face strong or weak opposition. Imagine if Real did not play Barca, Atleti, Sevilla, Valencia, Bilbao etc in La Liga. No doubt they would have an impressive goal differential and the "most points."

Which has nothing do with CL. I have already said you had a tough path in 2014. I do not believe in all this being rigged btw.
But your "imagine this was league" stuff is bullshit.

If there is one thing agree about, its this one. Last season Barca-fans bragged about beating champions of their respective leagues like it was the ultimate test of a champion, PSG was supposedly a great team last year. This year all of the sudden, they are a second rate team? Make up your minds about PSG, please.
Im not arguing for or against the other, but there has been a big shift regarding PSG i feel.

I kinda miss Hoeness, Rummenigge has become unbearable, even if Hoeness wasn't a saint on the mic either.

Atleti played the way they usually do. They even made a fair few mistakes. It was Barca who played criminally below-par. The first 30-40 min was the most cowardly football I've ever seen from them. Couple that with no movement from the forwards and no intensity anywhere in the team to overturn the tie (like in the first game - the pressure they put on Atleti in the 2nd half then was brilliant to watch - no team can resist that quality).

Don't be surprised by Atleti losing to Real again, if they even get past Bayern in the first place.
