What stuck in my mind is Samuel Eto'o walking off the pitch during that Real Zaragoza game. That's one of the first instances, for me ever, witnessing reaction from a player against racism from the crowd.
The banana incident with Dani Alves vs. Villareal as well. But Dani played this down in a legendary way and shut the crowd. It was embarrassing for all people attending.
I think there were few more incidents in Italy during that period.
There was also a game between CSKA Sofia and Tolouse in play-off stages of UEFA Cup (it was called at the time) in 2008 or so, when a Nigerian player from CSKA was sent off in the added time, 90+7 and his own manager was caught by the sideline microphones shouting "Да еба майка ти, тъп мангал!" which roughly translates to "Fuck your mother, dumb charcoal!". His own manager.
Not giving any names to spare the controversy.
Vini is right on his own, but more he plays the racial card, more he turns crowds against him. Like Gerard Pique and his misunderstood (or not) stance on Catalan independence.
