when playing in europe against teams at their level or higher, they generally adopt a defensive scheme and counterattack with their brazilian contingent and srna.

This is true. I think I watched them 3 or 4 times in the UEFA Cup & this was the story on each occasion. So yeah, it will be very difficult to adapt. Still, I would've hoped he'd show a bit more than he has by now.

Shaktar are not a defensive team. No matter what angle you choose there is no way of making that argument stand. They might resort to some more defensive approach at big games but so does ManUtd.
Being blind to his poor performances is one thing and being patient is another. I'm not saying he won't develop into a quality defender. It's the generous treatment from Pep that he's been receiving, while Caceres got little, that prompted majority of people to vote "unfair treatment". Now, Caceres is probably a victim of Txiki's policy but that doesn't change the fact he was a Barca player. And I still believe there are only Barca players. Not Pep's or Txiki's.

The Ukranian league is extremely defensive, Ukranian football still lives under the legacy of former Ukraine and Dynamo Kyiv manager Valeriy Lobanovskyi who emphasized discipline and defense...Shakhtar aren't a defense only team, like all rich Eastern European clubs they are filled with Brazilians who bring flair, but they still play a tight, low defensive line and there is plenty of reason to be sceptical about Chyga's ability to adjust, and I have yet to see the high IQ defensive awareness that he was advertised to have, even if he's likely not as painfully slow as he seems right now.

You can't deny that Chyga is used to playing against slow, mechanical attacks that define the UPL, and Shakhtar does play a very defensive game in Europe against the best opposition.

Caceres would have been very useful as back up for either full back, and he still will be in the future. Pep doesn't rate him for the same reasons he persists with Abidal a lot of the time. Given an extended run he would have shown his worth, not in the middle but definitely as a squad player.

and Beast you called Yaya slow? Didn't see that when Drugbar couldn't beat him for pace.

he wanted to play more, though.

don't think he'd have been happy being dani's backup (how often would he be used?)

and really right-footed LB's, unless they have exemplary technique (caceres does not) are hella gay.

Well you don't know what happens at training. I've heard Caceres did 0 effort to adapt at FCB, hence Pep didn't feel making an effort to adapt him into our first team.

Thats exactly why theres very little argument in this for me, its not about Chiggy, its about Crapperes and the fact that ultimately, there was a reason Pep didnt pick him. We dont know what happens in training, but I trust Pep's judgement enough on that front (I'm not going to sit there and deny that Pep makes any kindof mistakes like some people do) but on team selection, generally Pep knows what he is doing. Would any of you rather he played over Pique and Puyol last season? Really?

I voted no because treated unfairly or not it was down to the player can change his coach opinion and how much a player can grab a chance and improve.. when it was the CL final Pep opted for the slow Yaya as a CB than to trust Caceres even though you had zillion players missing in defense .
when you bought him i said he was clumsy and isn't Barca material cause i saw how crap he was when Madrid played Recreativo , he proved me right
17 Million thrown down the toilet his actual price wouldn't go past 6-7 million at best

Mm, I agree. It was a bad and overpriced buy from the start. The expectations was unfair, not how he was treated by the club - he never was and never will be good enough for Barcelona. It was a mistake by the club - with every good player we buy, we also get somebody not suited for our club. A 50/50 chance is not good enough, we have a clear idea of how we want to play and what we want from our players - this risk should be minimized.

In this case, we should make a "was Pep treated unfairly about treating Caceres unfairly" thread.

The one who's treated unfairly is MY MONSTER YAYA, fuck Caceres!

Wtf??? Just because he's playing well out on loan doesn't mean he was treated unfairly. He's a young defender who was given chances and blew almost all of them, how is unreasonable for the club to have sent him out on loan? Isn't that the exact situation that you would send somebody on loan? When you have a player who has potential but isn't quality enough for the first team yet?

Caceres treated "unfairly"?! I think this poll has grossly misused the word.

Caceres is a footballer, moving from club to club to find what works for that specific footballer and at that specific time is what the business is all about. "Treated unfairly"? Most certainly not.

I think were gonna make it
