I'm not too sure if Rooney is the Giggs type. Then again no one really knows for sure.
Very true. Rooney has played awesome the last two EPL games but he was nothing special today. Both his goals were mostly due to absolutely HORRID defending by Milan. There entire backline is rubbish besides Thiago Silva, who IMO is one of the best center backs in the world.

to be honest, if you watched the game he wasn't "nothing special." he was very good. he was fighting for every ball and not giving the milan D any rest even when he had no support in the first half. his finishing wasn't spot-on at times (could have had 4 IMO) but he was great overall. his first goal was almost undefendable really. the cross was the killer and his head was perfectly placed (well, maybe bonera coulda jumped earlier).
the second goal was stunning though. from rooney's header down to fletcher's cross to rooney's header in.

I didn't see his performance being that great. His work ethic and pressure was stellar as usual; but to me that is just a normal part of Rooney's game. Other than that he had a few oppotunities he finished poorly; no fancy passes or dribbling. Just didn't stand out to me like some of his other recent performances.
The bolded part is exactly my point. HORRIBLE defending. I mean jesus christ, all he had to do was do a bunny hop and head the ball absolutely anywhere other than into the net. I really can't find another word to describe it other than horrible. The funny part is before that happened I had just finished telling my father how I thought Bonera was terrible.
I thought Rooney's second goal, although it was a calm and well-placed finish and the ball from Fletcher was perfect, I blame it completely on the defense. It was 2 vs 2 with Thiago and I think Valencia crashing the net. Nesta and I think Bonera were just standing there, staring at Fletcher until he decided that "hey if they are just gonna stand there I guess i'll just chip it over them". I mean its 2 vs 2, step up to pressure Fletcher and Nesta (who was standing in empty space with Rooney behind/to his side) should of gone shoulder to shoulder with Rooney.

Rooney is due a pay rise in the coming months. His agent was banned for a couple of years (for the way he signed him) and it runs out soon.

The reason that Rooney is rated higheris because he WON the game, ronnie played well, but if Rooney wasnt on the Pitch Man Utd would of lost, which is why he is rated highly,
That is world class.. Without playing that well compared to recent performances, (did well in second half obv) but overall his general play wasnt as good as recently, but to step up and win the game is genuine world class, (Messi vs Tenerife - Scored three, wasnt as good with the ball as usual)

Anyone who bashes Rooney is nothing but a jealous hater. I do not see why people do not give him the credit he deserves. If he was any other nationality he would get a lot more praise than he does, just because he plays in Manchester United, he is often pigeonholed (sunny's trademark).
He was played out of position with a midfield that had Park, at the San Siro, yet came up with the goals.
I am as far as possible from having any admiration for the EPL, or anything associated with it but there is no reason to deny Rooney the praise he deserves. I just hope people are not judging Rooney by Barcelona standards

That list looks pretty inaccurate. Zlatan isn't our highest earner as far as I know and I'm not sure if Rooney only makes €6M.

Fair comment to be honest, its a little absurd seeing people here write that he isn't world class because he doesn't do fancy dribbles and passes. The man is a finishing machine, he puts away the half chances that 99% of strikers would either miss or hesitate to take.

I would consider him a finishing machine, not saying that he isn't but there are other attributes to him that I would certainly label him with before that.
For instance, for all Ronaldo's glamor and fame, I am unconvinced by the most simple thing: his first touch. Rooney's first touch is top notch. His aggression, his ball control, his will power, his consistency, his stamina, his cool, his vision, and his passing. Not sure about his vision but all I know is that for a long time, England produced a classical player who has dominated the modern game.
He is class, but he has only one stage to prove it once and for all: The World Cup.
If he takes England to the semi finals he is world class. I do not think England has the team or talent in midfield to win it, but I am sure if he can pull them through to the Semi Finals he would cement his status in my books.
