I disagree,I believe the winner of the WPOY will come from the team who either ins the champions league or wins the world cup!Usually that is what happens down through the years!

Funny thing is Rooney wasn't that great at the start of the season he was just scoring(I know that is what a strikers job is,but he can do so muchmore then that)But in the last month or two he has been out of this world in terms of both scoring goals and general play! For our sake we need that to continue,However Own Goals have been steping up his peformaces in recent weeks

sorry raed but you have lost respect for stevie gerrard, lampard, terry etc if you are suggesting that if england make the semi's rooney carried them there. there are other quality players in the team you know.

Maybe because they don't really play that well for England? Lampard and Gerrard's performances have improved since Rooney has dropped into the hole and been able to link well with them. Rooney was the best player in qualifying and scored the most goals playing behind Heskey.

Anyway, Rooney's performance in the first half wasn't the best but there was flashes of brilliances. I recall when he took a brilliant touch which set him up for a left foot shot which was very close. Second half he was far better, he dropped deeper at times and started to run at the defence. He got his two goals which were headers and it's really astonishing how he's improved this aspect of his game. He basically never scored headers before this season, maybe the odd one. Like I've said before, he's never been great up front on his own but because he's such a good player he can adapt in games and still do well. Doesn't mean he will every time but he did the job last night.

Anyone who bashes Rooney is nothing but a jealous hater. I do not see why people do not give him the credit he deserves. If he was any other nationality he would get a lot more praise than he does, just because he plays in Manchester United, he is often pigeonholed (sunny's trademark).

He was played out of position with a midfield that had Park, at the San Siro, yet came up with the goals.
I disagree with "out of position" part. If anything that is THE reason hes so incredible this year. I believe he already surpassed last year tally. Hes no longer required to chase down wingers, or be left wandering around the corner. Ronaldo departure gave him that free role in the middle where he can be so dangerous and at his best.

hes a goal machine mainly, but without CR i think alex is doing what he did with ronaldo and develping his completeness (heading, etc)

After watching him for years. He is very very good. Talent to match and maybe surpass Ronaldo and Messi. But hasnt had the managerial backing. But he's finally performing as a lone striker, which he's struggled with until this season.

that is a bit much... you can only go so far with technique and strength.. i think where he goes in the WPOY this year will totally depend on how england does in the World Cup

He's a player learning the lone striker role. Wait until he's let loose at the world cup by Capello. He's a natural number 10. At Man Utd he's played as a winger for years and now as a lone striker. I think the point isnt far off where he will be let off his leash.
