Actually it is said that Busquets is the biggest leader in the team right now and seen as future captain
It seems that he is way more respected among his teammates more than fans recognise .Puyol giving him his number ,being voted ahead of Mascherano and Pique (the 3 voted b4 him was formality ) ,Xavi saying he is the closest player to him etc
No way either Mascherano or Pique get ahead of him

I heard that too. I read an article that Busi also gives Xavi tactical advises / tells him where to position himself on the pitch.

You are right. It really seems like he is well respected in the squad. Xavi also said that he sees Busi as his successor. Not Iniesta, Busi. And Puyol giving him his number, and Busi always saying that he doesn't care what the press says cause his teammates appreciate his work, etc. So in that aspect it really makes much sense that he is 4th captain (and will be 3rd next season). It also fits with what king Messi said:

The players vote. And we should respect their choice.

I didn't know that. Thought it was given by the coach like in the Argentine Team. But this way it is much better.

I think he does but by a few weeks only (sergio debuted mid september) and piqué will follow right after busquets, so... the players probably rate year by year, not weeks by weeks.
I didn't watch barça before 2008 so you must be right about ronnie. Him and Puyol both were picked ahead of xavi

My instinct was Pique, but I see great arguments for Masch. Busi is still young enough to be captain later in his career so id understand if he wasnt even 3rd yet. Glad he is though. n a few years I can see it being Messi, Pique, Busi, and Masch.

Edit- my personal order would be Iniesta, Leo, Pique, Masch. With Busi getting third after Iniesta leaves/retires for Messi, Pique, Busi, Mascherano.

Highly doubt Mascherano will ever crack into top 4 tbh ,it hasn't happened for over decade that a player later being put later in the captain order than he was so it is safe to say that Iniesta,Messi,Busquets are now the 3 captains of the team .Pique most probably get voted specially after he already said he wants it
And I doubt Mascherano will be here for long ,he is 31 and he is the kind of guy whose style of play depend on his speed and hard work .age won't do him favor with our style of play .I think he only have 2-3 seasons here tops .and very doubtful any of the others will leave b4 him
