The shape of the defense is completely different. There was no space behind the defense or in between the lines to get a ball like he did from Banega against Iceland. He was "static" in the forward zones which were clogged but as active as he possibly could be behind the bus, initiating the offense.

I agree it is different shape but Messi was too static v Iceland after looking levels above everyone else early on.

He suits RW better but in all honesy did not see it happening.

Think yellow was ok. Di Maria looked a bit slow and a bit too far outside to really make it a 100% chance, plus he had the ball on his left and struggled to get it into a good position on his storng foot. That defender who came from the right also looked significantly faster than him and might've prevented it.
