Agreed! Probably Laporta?s biggest blunder so far, and he?s trying to deflect blame by using cliche statements such as: we are not to blame, but we re responsible.
Had he foreseen the threat, this shit-show never have happened. So if not Laporta, then who?
I agree that what Laporta has been saying 'we are not to blame, but we are responsible" sounds pretty bad as he tried to strike a balance between trying to own up the responsibility while painstakingly trying to tell everybody what happened and how certain elements were outside the control of the club etc. The worst is the victimhood card he tried to play, that was not necessary at all.
But, having said that, I think the club did foresee the threat of Frankfurt fans coming en masse, as they took measures of not selling tickets to German IPs and people with German credit cards etc., however they didn't foresee three things (1) how "creative" many Frankfurt fans were in buying tickets, like using VPNs, non-German bank accounts and Spanish credit cards etc. and (2) how so many socis (from the figures Laporta gave yesterday, around 14500 socis or local Barca fans either sold/rent their season ticket cards to Frankfurt fans or bought tickets at 50% discount only to sell them to Frankfurt fans later, and (3) the sheer number of Frankfurt fans who were able to obtain tickets, the club thought most of them in Barcelona without tickets.
Of course the club shares the blame and could have done better on a number of things such as ticketing (making tickets "nominative" as they propose to do from now on for high-risk games; instead of putting 30K or so tickets for sale through the regular channels, giving them to supporter clubs and other local organizations and encouraging them to come etc.), entrance checking and security (not allowing German fans to bring in flares and water bottles as reported by many. Security was overwhelmed and sort of intimidated by the Frankfurt fans) etc. But in the end I agree with Laporta, we are a football club or a sports club, they foresaw certain things and took preventative measures, but they do not have the capabilities to prevent say German fans using VPNs and Spanish credit cards etc., nor did they have means to stop season ticket holders and local fans from selling their cards and tickets.
I think this was a great lesson learned for the club and if we can start doing a few things right from here (making tickets "nominative", adding traceability but also enforcing some sort of % for season ticket holders to show up at Camp Nou etc.), it would be good.
