Yeah but they are older and play in teams that will likely go fat in the tournament. Only similar problem in Barca are Busi (who can't run anhow) and Alba. Other are younger or will be out in the group stages (Lewa).

Club invested lots of money in the squad. Xavi has to deliver now.

Squad looks good on paper, but making it click as a team stands on another page.

His main task now is to make Busquets work. Justifying having irrational attachment to his old friend and prove that this isn't just sentimental nepotism at play.

I hope that's the case. I can see Busquets as functional part of the team only, when all his defensive duties are effectively done by other players and he can focus on his unique set of skill that doesn't include any of that, despite being labeled as "defensive" mid.

True. Same for Lucho at the World Cup. Now you have to prove that Busi can still work with the right players around him, because no way you could claim Lewandowski, Raphinha, Kounde are not top class.

No excuse for playing Busi right now if he does poorly.

Lucho seem to not utilize Rodri at all. He's hard core Barca fan, when it goes to squad making. People were surprised, when he started Pedri and even more baffled, when he took Gavi under his wing. He also loves Ferran as much as Xavi. So there's no surprise he keeps Busi as main man. He also obviously likes Fati. On one side it's nice to have cule as Spains NT coach as we can see "our" guys play even, when Barca doesn't, but i will always question Busquets supremacy given how much shit he has caused in recent years for Barca.

It's true but have you seen Spain play without Busi? They look clueless. Maybe too reliant on him? Especially in offense.

Same goes for Barca actually.

We got used to Messimagic and Busimagic

I think a lot of coaches are so awestruck with Busi in possession that they don't like benching him. Must be those smooth turns and the press resistance.

Unfortunately, they just see him as the permanent pinnacle of the DM position in their ideal system of play.

Seems to be that these managers need to accept the fact that you're gonna lose the ball more often, and be stronger without the ball in defensive transition. That's the key issue. Yeah, another player might make more passing errors than Busi, but he's also going to be better in defense when you do end up losing the ball.

The problem is you're gonna automatically lose the ball vs a team like City, Liverpool, Bayern. And once that happens, Busi is a terrible DM. I very much doubt you're gonna boss the strongest teams around like peak 2011 Barca to justify using Busi there.

In La Liga Busi can still work fine. In CL, I doubt it. Both him and Alba, as well as the terrorist in goal, are huge liabilities, not to mention mental midgets who check out when the going gets tough.
