Mr ad hoc. Mr clueless. Mr impromptu .

Everything this brother does is inprincipled, improvised, ill-informed and ill-formed.

The game when he put cancelo in the second half as a DM proves that. He was like " pep puts defenders there like kimmich and Stones and Lham so it must be a good idea". As if the principle is putting a defensive player there on no account but being a defender.

Attacking wise there are no patters, no predictive modes of moving of any sort. Any one who watched gundogan regularly would predict exactly when and where and how gundogan storms into the box and scores. The same player himself looks as lost as the rest. Often times he just plays safely or take initiative in complete improvisation. Even the goal yesterday was not a build up.

This team unless a miracle happens will not achieve big things and the nail in the coffin is going to be mbappe joining madrid. The squad for all its shortcomings is a great and versatile one that ought to be producing much better football.

Only positive thing to end on a good note is the physicality of the team that seems to be good . Yesterday the team collectively ran 120 km, which is super great for an away barca team.

Bit harsh on Gundogan that.

He was by far the best midfielder yesterday and assisted the goal... the fourth time this season he has assisted the opening goal.

Gundogan was Barcs best mid v Sevilla at weekend also.

I was abot to mention this after Sevilla. Long gone days we stop tracking after min 50. Koeman started it.

Only team that won bigger titles than Barca last season was Man City.

Keep calm and relax. Porto had 0.67 xG last night. Huffed and puffed and created nothing but one serious chance all game.

Not a great match sure, but that's CL. Bayern barely won at Copenhagen for example. A much weaker team than Porto. Madrid with Napoli too.

We badly need another DM.

Took a cheap gamble on Romeu and it's proven to be a mistake. Has all the flaws as an aging Busi has while being nowhere near good enough on the ball.

And the penalty which should have been given really.

gundo was afraid to pass to remeu (good thing) and gavi was nowhere to be seen for a pass. all he could do was try to keep the ball. not his fault in my book.
the team is completely disorganised because we can't manage a consistent starting 11. it's deadly obvious.
not saying xavi got it right this match, far from it. but we have to see facts.
frankie is the engine and class of the team and Pedri is the brain. without them we drop many levels.

To be fair places like Copenhagen are a difficult place to go on Cl nights. City drew 0-0 there last season.

Any away win in the cl is good because these teams are extra motivated to face the big clubs in front of their own fans.

It’s away from home those kinda clubs usually get tanked.

Can say similar of Porto though. First CL home game against a big name rival that are beatable.

In the end, any CL MD1/2 is going to be a potential banana skins. I remember in the Rijkaard days when we would play Werder Bremen and were getting overrun.

Or in 9/10 with arguably our best side as defending Champions we went to Rubin Kazan and lost.

Gundogan hasn't looked great, yet he has made some crucial assists. Key player for us.

I assume his best games are still coming. Big game player.

Agree. If we start with the assumption that Romeu (even at 3.5M) was neither the 1st option nor a long-term one, clearly there is a piece ‘missing’ for Xavi. Still, the lack of fluidity & roles in Barca’s positional play shouldn’t be predicated on having the very elite options at your disposal. It’s to derive tactical solutions to defenses - both the lack of combination play & the lack of constantly/aggressively switching to probe/expose openings is bizarre for a Barca coach much less Xavi

Personally I think it starts with identifying your catalysts (Gundogan, Felix & Player C) - the drilling the triangles among the midfield so that it circulates with precision & speed to ensure you create advantages. Similarly, you work on ball recovery & transition defense

I rarely have the impression a tactical plan is stamped into the match on the off at Barca under Xavi - it regularly looks disjointed & more than the result this is painful to watch
