fair enough, but if xavi wasn't slower, less agile and defensively lazier now, it would either mean he doesn't age like normal humans do, or that he didn't play to his fullest back then. which either way is not the case obviously. The thing i don't get about xavi's role today, is why he is used so inflexibly. So he slows the game down, he plays more conservative, he doesn't go for the killer pass so often any more. There are games and situations where this is exactly the style we need to play, when we're in front and have to survive attack after attack, or when everyone's losing his head and the whole team is all over the place. play xavi when we need control, when we need to calm things down a bit, when we need to play it save. Don't play him when we have to do the power play and steamrolling. play thiago or cesc then.
Quite simply, Xavi is getting old so for the staff and even himself to expect to be able to play game in and game out every season is a bit ridiculous. Literally he has played non stop for the last 5 years between Barça and Spain, and particularly at his age let alone any player, that's a lot on your body.
I think he just needs some serious rest to let the young guns get time, particularly in la liga. With a less strenuous season, Xavi will roll back the years like he never left.
Again in general, more rest and rotation in our squad will do us a world of good and keep our key players fresh and competitive.
