We can still play tiki taka if Xavi is gone but we need to EVOLVE as well. Ditching the false 9 would be a great start and actually getting a striker. Getting a cb to partner with Pique.

Adding pieces is the key. But the players have to be willing to accept it and it starts with Xavi. Messi, in a way, also.

Pep left us off great, but we failed to properly build off it.

To me "tiki taka" was always more efficient with a false 9, a striker (that can play wide) and a pure winger, cf. MessiVillaPedro agains Milan, and MVP in general.
Positional interchanging the whole match with Messi sometimes playing at the back of the striker and the striker sometimes out wide.

Oliver Torres is not a replacement, nor will he be for a few years until he develops more. I'm not against buying him but he can't be called a replacement for Xavi when he is still not ready.

Koke is the only player I can see even coming close, but he will cost mega millions and is unrealistic.

Somebody mentioned that it's going to take a genius to replace Xavi ..... well we've got one :)

The passage below is not mine , it's just been copied and pasted from another Barca forum BUT it kinda makes sense ..

Quote

" Perhaps the best course of action for the coming season, would be to move Messi to an Attacking Midfielder role, along side Iniesta, he is our leading assist front man...

He can pass the ball with purpose at any given instant, and would open up various dimensions to our attack :

1 - He would occupy the middle of the park, there for markers would have to leave their zonal space if they would want to stop him, which would prove deadly since our three attackers would have a newly found space to operate in...

2 - Messi no longer will see eye to eye with 3 defenders under each touch of the ball

3 - We can now add a new striker/winger or even move one of Neymar Alexis, to their false 9 preferred positions...

4 - It will instantly change the dynamics of how Barcelona attacks, from passive passing to xavi, who sends diagonal balls that have become predictable in recent times, to a more direct approach, where the ball reaches the middle, and is on course to either finding the front men, or the back of the net....

5 - it will put an end to the Messi dependency glitch we have become accustomed to seeing....

Read above, false 9 = 10 that moves at CF at times, but still a 10 (Cesc's favorite position), which is why Xavi plays so deep and why Fabregas always clashed with Messi when playing in CM.

You need a striker that plays wide (ala Villa). He always played like that with Villa when Pep was here, then for some reason we got rid of that with Tito and this year too.

I've suggested this in the past and I'm honestly really surprised nobody has tried it before other than like 2 matches(vs Real a few years ago and vs Milan in the CL).

I think sooner or later, Messi will play more as a classic 10 for Barcelona with a striker ahead of him. It's the natural evolution of his game and he'll lead Europe in assists every season while still scoring at least 30 goals a season.

BUT (big but)- then you've got a defensive problem and a movement problem. Unless Messi increases movement and always takes care of his defensive duties, you've not solved any problems. If you move Messi back, then you really need a 4-2-3-1 to protect behind Messi, and where does Iniesta play? Move Neymar to the right?
