Shit. I guess Xavi sees this situation impossible to fix.

There's a good chance we'll end up trophyless this year. I can't blame Xavi for not wanting to start his Barca career with a trophyless season. It's Valverde's mess, let him finish it, and give Xavi a clear start, with the transfers he wants, preseason, new training systems, things which are usually perfected in the summer preseason.

I can totally understand Xavi waiting until the summer to take over. It does suck having to endure the rest of this probably quite painful season, but hopefully we get some green shoots next season

Or be used as a political pawn, several journalists claim Font was in communication with Xavi as well this weekend that suggests he provided strategy with respect to the elections. All of the biggest club legends have distanced themselves from Bartomeu and a qualified no from Xavi surely forces the Pres' hand to still terminate Valverde now. All of which, of course, underscores the stupidity of Bartomeu to continue with Ernesto this summer when it was already long overdue - only to do it mid-season

Completely understandable for Xavi to not want to jump into the fire now. If and when he does become our manager I hope he has full autonomy over the club. We need our coach and sporting directors working together. Something that is not happening now.

Valverde should still probably be fired though. Get someone in to manage for the final 4 months. The locker room needs a shake up and for someone to come in and try to lift the team. The team is full of world class players. At this point they need some fucking confidence and a leader.

I'm against that. He should have a voice and platform to inform recruitment and the direction we take the team in but we shouldn't just put blind faith in him to make all decisions.

I think he need to be in charge of recruiting the player profiles he want if he's hired, but not names as you cannot expect managers to follow and scout a dozen players around.

Fire Valverde and bring in an interim until all competitions are decided. Then bring in Xavi. Might as well give him an extended pre season if the season ends early.

Oh yes. Ibra, Chygrynskiy and the current state of Man City's defense are what happens when your coach tries to be a scout. Not to mention Arda.

You need your coach in on the loop regarding signings but you can't just get every player he names.

True. Maybe not complete autonomy. I just hope there’s a more cohesive bond between manager and board than there is now.

Honestly I'd give to another coach this chance in the summer, this was Xavi's chance and I cannot blame him for rejecting it but surely there are better more proven coaches who could take over Barca in the summer.

Timing is not good for a coach change in terms of it should of happened in Summer with a new coach identifying their transfer targets. But on the other hand, Barcelona are not currently in a (visible) crisis. Top of LaLiga, still in the CL with a decent 1/16 draw and in La Copa. If a coach is available and confident of their abilities then it is a golden opportunity for most.

For Xavi, I don't think he is ready (Guardiola had a year in B, Lampard had a year in Championship by contrast to recent successes) but if your going to take it in Summer then you might as well take it now. Work with the squad which pretty much selects itself with current injuries and profile the necessities for Summer.

Sticking with Ernie after the current leaks is a big mistake (he is no motivator), while an interim coach brings no one benefit on a sporting level. The board have boxed themselves into a corner really, as if your going to get a new manager then it should be for the next season and a half atleast.

Xavi still won't be ready this summer, he needs to coach in Europe first and prove himself. Pep was a one off

Way more cases than Pep. Zidane one, Arteta another one. More and more managers make the step without having much experience. The thing is, it is hard for Xavi to go at a different club and implement his philosophy. You need top players to play possession based football.

Outside Barcelona, what top club can give Xavi the platform to implement his vision? There isn't one.

If we go with exprience vs style and vision, the danger of landing Ernie 2.0 is huge.
