He kept abde because he is a pure winger and Xavi wanted the width. It's being missing from the team for years and it's the first time we deploy actual wingers even if they are not top class.

True and even in abdes case you see why they are needed. To me it was always more frustrating to watch these painfully slow wingers who never helped in anyway. There was zero hope or danger in their doing.

All true, and i like the line up Xavi is going with including the sernior players. Cant wait to see what the brother Bobo32 has to say. He didnt seem too pleased during half time at chat. I only read for a bit at half time. Will be interesting,

He has a rough time. His saviour isn't as pure as he thought.

Not sure how this current set up will suit Fati all that much as the wide players are pinned to the touchline more or less and take a quick action from out wide.

There is little to no cutting in or going narrower to allow fullbacks to overlap and take width.

Fati isnt a touch line winger he is a forward that has good movement and brilliant finisher when hits ball early before teams are set.

To be fair to Xavi though this may be based on players he has at disposal but it is very similar to way Pep has his wide players playing now and they take all width and full backs more of FB/DMs than FB/Wingers.

I would predict a mix of both... on left Fati will be a wide forward and Alba takes the width more and on other side Alves is RB/DM and allows Dembele to hug touchline.

First half last night was the most composed and structured team has looked since the run last season when were scudding Real Sociedad etc. Cant see what more Xavi can do with the players he has than last night. The old/young make up of players means there will be dips every game. There is not enough players in their prime years that can maintain performances. Nothing Xavi can do about that for now.

Close to a win this time. We lack goalscorers badly.

'close to a win this time'

that's how far weve fallen.

sack this lunatic if he keeps on playing pique alba and busi

id rather lose with 11 motivated bright youngsters than continue watching these old men soak up millions in wages without effort in games

Unfortunately, this La Liga has no history anymore. Real Madrid has no real competitors, they will win this edition at 10-12 points difference and us will fight to get a CL place 4. And, not saying that starting next season, Mbappe will join Real 100% so they will be even stronger. Mbappe, Benzema, Vinicius Jr... what an attack?
No chance for us to even bother this guys for next several years. Even now, La Liga and Lihue 1 where PSG are at already 12 points distance from second team, there is no real completion there.
It is and will be unfortunate for us to stay for years in Real's shadow.
I was and will forever remain pure Barca fan, but it is very hard to acccept that. Without money everybody knows that you can do much. But, at least, we should be smart enough and have courage to make the necessary changes as we go.
If you see that a specific player is out of game for a reason, why keep him an entire match? You need to try different combinations, bring in new guys otherwise you will never see/ realize if these could be better or even worse. You need to have courage and sub a player when you see that is completely out in a certain game. I would understand to keep Messi even if he would sleep on the pitch but not FdYong, Abde who are bringing nothing to the team since some time ago. Not trying other new people in the team, bringing them from B team for example, we have no chance with actual display, I mean chance to get back on top.
And, like I said, I feel no pleasure anymore to see how far we are from Real and cannot swallow to be a small minnow in La Liga pond.

Relax. LaLiga 2017-18 and 2018-2019 both had Madrid finishing 3rd. These things always turn around. We just have to be smart and a bit lucky with the signings to bounce back.

I think something like simple overlaps from the wing back is something we could benefit a lot from.

We're able to progress it to the winger a lot but from there we're pretty clueless.

Solid weapon in those situations that's easy to train and implement

No reason why we shouldn't do this: https://streamff.com/v/882fd1

How many times didn't Dembele receive the ball like that where Araujo could have come storming down the wing but just didn't?

That's not the type of player Araujo is. He's a CB playing as a RB. We just don't have better options at the moment so are making do.

Plus, our build up is a 3-4-3 shape with Alba stepping forward and centrally to make it more like a diamond midfield shape. So, at the moment, we really aren't set up for overlapping fullbacks although I do agree that someone overlapping Dembele may have helped him as he routinely had several defenders on him. Not that that would have helped his decision making though.

Already miles better than every coach we had after Lucho left. I am almost sure that he will become a great manager and that next season Baca will dominate games again. We played a very good game yesterday and if we had Fati and Depay on our disposal we would have probably won.

That game was very encouraging and we seem to be getting better and better every time we go out to play.

I think this is his preferred tactical structure. I saw a video (can't remember where) where he was talking about his tactics and he had very wide wingers similar to how Guardiola has City set up. Alba clearly playing much more narrow then he used to and it'll be interesting to see the spaces that Alves takes up when he comes into the side. Araujo is not a rb so I think there will likely be a change in the positioning of Alves when he comes in compared to where Araujo is positioned.

Please, any player that can't perform an action as simple as running an overlap shouldn't play professional football. Also, we had Araujo trying to dribble to the touchline yesterday. No reason why he can't do an overlap while one of the CMs cover his position.
