This is not the first time we have heard such a comment since Flick's arrival, there have been similar ones from good La Liga coaches like Valverde or Michel talking about how unplayable we are.

You never get that kind of respect and fear until you prove it against the big teams in dominant fashion. Half a season under Flick and we're back to being respected among the UCL teams and considered as real contenders.

Notice that even though we won a league under Xavi, almost no manager gave us that kind of respect ? even Ten Hag and the worst United team ever made fun of us.

It's a bit unfortunate that we can't get some of the good stuff Xavi's team had so far under Flick, which makes me think that a third manager in the future, if we get the person right, will be the most successful of the three, not in the least thanks to conjuncture and timing.

Is it really not possible to play attacking without having a crap defensive setup, or is it not possible to keep clean sheets vs good teams while also playing entertaining football? It seems that neither Xavi, nor Flick, found solutions to make us fun to watch in a balanced way. Maybe it's the squad limitation that impacts this more than the manager in question. Playing our games off Camp Nou probably plays a big part too.

Still, something is missing for us to be a truly world class team again.

Dont think Xavis defensive set up was ever as good as made out.

On face of it the league winning record was good but it took MATS to be best player in La Liga that season to maintain that and it felt like opposition were constantly missing easy chances on top of it or being a ball hair away from good chances.

A lot said on here it was not sustainable and cant forget the amount of goals conceded to likes of Frankfurt, Inter, Bayern and Man Utd that season and just prior either. While also suffered worst home defeat to Real in decades in cup.

That defensive record in league felt like a bit of anomoly at the time for how the defence was actually set up.

Barca have squad good enough to win League or CL this season.. injuries permitting.. but still do lack some things to make it even more likely.

Lack a bit of pace up top and ability to run in behind and with likes of Kounde, Araujo and Balde the build up can be a bit stutterd from the back when opposition leave them on ball and try to funnel it where want.

Wouldnt be surprised if see more teams try to copy Atalanta set up v Barca going forward.
