Regarding the story, yes it was big, it was all the sports media in Sweden would write about for some days. Thankfully Zlatan has gained so much popularity that the population in general called the media out on beeing full blown retarded with this one. The gender equality debate in Sweden is so screwed up that media will do anything to provoke something they can attack (they have been fishing for a slip like this for a long time) and then they wont shut up about it, blaming the scenario (and I do believe they dont understand better at this point) on the patriarchy rather than their own provokative trolling.
For anyone interested, the fact that this thing has gone out of hand in Sweden is kind of easy to explain. Sweden is a socialist country, and extremely prone to equality. But then there is another factor, the one thing about Sweden I am ashamed about. Generally, Swedes are a kind of smart, educated and analytical, but there has always (to my knowledge) been one major flaw in this culture and that is that Swedes - as a general population - believe they can explain everything with numbers. And if they dont have the correct numbers, they grab some numbers by some complete bullshit approach (far, far, far from scientific) and decide these numbers will have to do. Of course, they wont choose this arbitrary, but use numbers that support their case.
Now, combine the two and you probably understand where its heading. You have people spending their lives debating with flawed, irrelevant, or in cases even completely fabricated quantitative numbers. And they often have no idea about it themselves after a while. Because its numbers so it must be true, right? If you would try to debunk some claim scientificaly, you are just a hater, ignorant to the numbers.
This all boils down to the ideas such that if boys go to the gym 4% more than girls, something is extremely wrong in this world, because it must mean boys have 4% more free time on their hands.
Just some random Swedish culture. After all, it might explain why Zlatan slipped up. This all started because a 37 year old male player got a car as thanks for his long service; record number of apperances with the national team. The woman who holds the record for the women fotball team did not get the same car at the same day at the same ceremony. Omg, the numbers, they dont add up!
