Valdés already left, pinto was the #1. Right now, MAtS is the 1, masip the 2.

Pinto is not a back up though. He was, for all intents and purposes, the starting keeper of the team. Valdes stopped being a Barca player the moment Barcelona and Atletico game ended.

They talk of Pinto as Barça's gk, not back up. It makes sense to announce it together. That Valdés was gone has been clear for a long time anyway.

Its been rumoured for a while that the club is looking for a more experienced keeper. Lucho's preferred being Keylor Navas. MAtS was primarily ZubiZa's signing, one that earned him a lot of flak in the media, as a section of the board had a more popular name in mind. So I won't be surprised if they bring in their own "#1". And, didn't MAtS in his recent interview already allude to the possibility of fighting his place. So, it seems to 've already been communicated to him. Otherwise, it would s*ck for the kid. :lol:
And yes, the way his pic's juxtaposed with Pinto's on the OS does feel he will wear pinto's jersey. Some poster here wanted TS to become Messi's pinto, may be he'll get his wish fulfilled. :p

Not really, the reporter asked him whether competition at his new club would do him good and whether he was worried about that, and he said no and talked about the possibility of becoming second choice "if you don't perform", but said that he has that everywhere, even at Gladbach. He also said he will be able to prove himself on the international top level, which he wouldn't have as the 2nd choice keeper. I doubt he would have signed for us if he didn't become first choice.

Besides, signing an experienced keeper makes a lot of sense, is expected and doesn't mean that MAtS will be his backup. First, competition is needed, especially for a young keeper, second having MAtS and Masip alone would be too risky.

Just wanted to get this off my chest.

The guy is 22, new at the club, doesn't speak the language and there is alot of pressure. Give him time, we shouldn't try to attack him if makes mistakes. Instead we should show him our full support. Just wanted to say this.
