Not really. We were this shitty against Valencia at home last season, but we didn't concede, because the keeper saved us on different occasions. The keeper can very well be man of the match, or among the best players on the night. It's just that Ter Stegen can't be that at this point, because the confidence is not there and because he is not ready to be a full time Barca keeper.
It's one thing to commend your goalkeeper for singlehandedly saving the day, but to count it as a negative that he couldn't? How absurd. Whether he has the confidence or not there are very few keepers who would have done better in Vigo than he did. Bailing the team out is one thing, but pulling magic out of the hat is another. Demanding the former is a little unfair, but is understandable. Demanding the latter and chalking it up to "Confidence" when he can't deliver isn't just unfair, it's madness.
He can't make a tough save even if his life dependeded on it. I am sorry that is how I feel. There might be no difference in the talent, mats might be better in that but the difference in experience is clearly visible. Mats is mentally not ready to be a full time keeper. Too much uncertainty in his mind, every time I see his face I feel like he is playing forcefully. No joy whatsover, needs some clean sheets to bring back the confidence and smile.
He can and he has made plenty of tough saves. He's been hung out to dry in our toughest starting string of games that I can remember in a very long time but it doesn't make him a bad keeper. Bravo when he first started out here could barely even clear the ball or pass it to a teammate without entering a panic. Having a solid defense in front of him every week and actually playing games in that time is what made him gain the confidence we see now. Do you really think that if Mats had been playing all this time as originally intended he'd be in the situation he is in now? Don't make me laugh.
