Making MATS a scapegoat is obviously overdoing it.
But it is a fact that he has been massively underperforming this season so far.
It is telling that the best what could be said of his match performances so far was something like: "Well he was not at fault on any of the goals".
So while he is definitely not the sole factor for our weak defensive performances he also has not been able to be a positive factor yet either.

Let's just hope that he, and others like Piqué, Masch, etc., will be able to significantly improve pretty soon.
Or that Vermaelen will come back soon and for once manages to stay injury free for longer than just a couple of matches.

In any case it currently looks like January can't come soon enough.

Agreed. The defence is a big concern and while ter Stegen is a component of that, the fact is we have conceded four goals in a match three times already this season counting the supercups. The defence look exposed and at times, you could drive a HGV through it. Has to be remedied now otherwise top teams in Europe and domestically will take advantage

Exactly, I dont remember him making any key saves this season. He's been pretty bad. Bravo has outplayed him and it sucks Bravo got injured, but he'll be back soon and then we'll see proper fight between these two goalkeepers.. They both want to paly as much as possible. Should be great.

I certainly hope that when Bravo comes back he's able to stop every single ball that comes his way no matter what the circumstances.

Seriously, people blaming Mats for not pulling off the impossible when he's just being thrown out there in front of a defense who is literally letting the opponents score?

If we applied this same logic to Bravo any time he conceded last season he'd have been crucified by now. Believe it or not, but we actually did concede goals with Bravo in net. Even lost a few games, too. Yeah, I know, shocking.

Not really. If we could have bought an established star, I don't think we would have gotten Ter Stegen.

There were options, management just wanted to showboat making a promising signing to fill a void of young talent in squad, failed at managing the situation and now you have 2 GKs unsatisfied with the role they are getting & media helping to blow it up.

Was it a mistake to sign a inexperienced young GK and give him the 1 for Barca? Probably
Was it a mistake to place him after only for cups matches? Yes, specially for his confidence

GK position is probably the only position in which you should never gamble. You don't need a star, you need an experienced GK & Europe is full of them. The only thing that narrows the spectrum for Barca is whether they can play with their feet or not.

1)the people that are blaming stegen don't "understand" football, most of them never even kicked a ball far more play the game to begin understanding.
2)I'm not saying that he's scotch free but other areas of the pitch impact on him so it will be hard to judge.
3)go watch victor valdes pre-champions league 05/06 and tell me what you see

Incredible goals are scored when there is belief the goalie cheats off his line. 2 from midfield and 1 from the corner flag in what 6 games?

It won't matter who is in goal if the defence is this shitty.
You can bring Neuer, De Gea, Courtois etc they would still concede.

Pique and Alves are awful at times, Mascherano will always be a makeshift defender and Alba is sometimes woefully out of position.
We need a proper Cb. We have needed one ever since Puyol became injury prone.

The reason the midfield can't control the play is because they're too busy trying to compensate for Msn who don't press that much. At times Rakitic and Iniesta are almost dms which sucks. That leaves the creative work to Messi.

Last season alot of people credited Msn for our success but it was the defence and the hard work the midfield put in that made it happen.
Rakitic put in twice the work that Cesc would have.

Any time someone takes a random shot at Cesc an angel gets its wings.

Not really. We were this shitty against Valencia at home last season, but we didn't concede, because the keeper saved us on different occasions. The keeper can very well be man of the match, or among the best players on the night. It's just that Ter Stegen can't be that at this point, because the confidence is not there and because he is not ready to be a full time Barca keeper.

He can't make a tough save even if his life dependeded on it. I am sorry that is how I feel. There might be no difference in the talent, mats might be better in that but the difference in experience is clearly visible. Mats is mentally not ready to be a full time keeper. Too much uncertainty in his mind, every time I see his face I feel like he is playing forcefully. No joy whatsover, needs some clean sheets to bring back the confidence and smile.
