I like MAtS, I think he's done incredibly well with us. But why can't they solve issues like these without going public? He gets to defend the CL title and will be our starter goalie very soon, if he isn't happy with his situation or the explanation from the club than maybe he should leave - we shouldn't give in to players running their mouths to media.

Ter Stegen declares he wants more playing time but doesn't think about leaving Barça

The goalkeeper rotation drama at Barça continues but fans shouldn't worry for now

In a recent interview, Ter Stegen made it clear that he's not happy with his limited participation and that he needs to play league games as well. Now, some of you may start blaming Stegen for not being happy by only playing Cup matches, and it reflects on Claudio Bravo, who also mentioned how he wasn't happy by playing only in the leagues.

“It is difficult because I don’t have the rhythm I would like to have,” speaking to Eurosport.de. “Every player wants to accomplish the best. That’s the same for Claudio and myself. Of course I would like to play more often."

“I am happy that I am part of the team in brilliant matches like the one against Arsenal: I can show what I am capable of doing, that is very important for me."

Finally, the German goalkeeper commented on what the future holds.
“If the situation remains the way it currently is, we have to sit down and talk. To continue like this is difficult for a keeper my age. To be honest I haven't really thought about it, not thinking about other clubs because that would be too early."

That's different from before.

I don't think it is different at all. It is the same talking points, "not liking the fact that I am not playing too many games. I want to play more", "if the situation does not change we will have to talk", "it is too early to think about the future right now".

Of course he wouldn't say "I am thinking about leaving and club XYZ are possible destinations". The only thing different is the title that grup 14 came up with --- "but doesn't think about leaving Barça".

So you are just discounting the stuff about match rhythm, being happy to be part of the team and it being too early to think about the future and concluding it's the same.

Not discounting, the part about match rhythm simply supports/explains why he is not happy about not playing more games; the part about being happy to be part of great team to me is the typical diplomatic/nice things players say.

To me grup14's post does not provide any new information that changes the story.

I never get why players share their frustrations with the public, it reflects badly on the clubs and lowers the chance of them getting anything positive out of their situations.

MD reports the club will meet his agent at the end of the season to make him stay and keep the successful duo with Bravo for just one more season

Not really, it puts pressure on the club to do something about it while it shows other teams that he might leave for them if their offer is good enough.

By the way, he also said it's way too early to think about that right now. But for some odd reason  the media often leaves that part out.

And make Ter Stegen the undisputed starting keeper for most if not all games starting in the 17/18 season?

If so, very good.

Yes and if the complaining player is then chosen over his counterpart, it seems like the club bends to the player's will. But Bravo has also said a thing or two to the public, so I guess it doesn't matter in this case.

Well even if he thought it was too early, he did end up sharing his frustrations anyway :/

I don't know why players do that, but this is one of the lesser dramatic exmaples for it. He just says that he's unsatisfied with the current playtime and that he considers talking to the management soon. It doesn't really make a huge difference wether the public knows about it, or not. Still not very professional but so be it now

I agree, not too bad in this case, was also more of a general statement. Bravo has also said a thing or two anyway.

In 99 % of cases, because their agents tell them to do so as a tactical measure.

I said it at the time, and I still believe this to be true, the Club World Cup was probably the drop that spilled the cup for MatS, for me that was a mistake by Lucho as clearly CWC is a "CUP", we played for winning the UCL, so it was absolutely clear it was Mats's to play until Lucho decided to break everything, for no apparent reason.

Lol didn't think about it that way. Perhaps I just don't see the actual benefits then other than the clubs being forced to make a decision ASAP.

In a way, it's all about putting pressure on the club, as you said. If MAtS met, say, Barto and told him that he wants more playing time, he'd refer to him to Lucho. If he'd ask Lucho, he'd tell him his opinion on the matter, positive or negative. But he can't go pestering people constantly about it, so he makes sure or at least tries to make sure that the media does it instead to keep this thing an issue. It's part of building a foundation for future negotiations. That's what I meant when I used the term tactical.
