Ronaldo was almost inside the 6 yard box when he shot. Torres was almost outside the 18 yard box when he shot.

MAtS' is just as bad if not worse.

Also it's Torres.

I'm sure you won a lot of debates in high school...

One-on-one goalkeeping is about rushing out, spreading yourself and making yourself "big".
Near post goalkeeping is standing with the feet just slightly apart so that the ball cannot slip though the legs.
Bravo took the risk of rushing out and using the one-on-one technique and it backfired.
Stegen did what he had to do, and was unlucky.

Incredible passes/kicks from goal. He even set up Suarez for a 1v1 and, had Luis controlled well, he would have been through to goal.

What a random lucky goal from Torres, aim for the long corner, miss by 2 meters, score a nutmeg.

With some exceptions, nutmeg goals are just luck for strikers, just misplaced shots that have the power & timing to surprise the goalie, nothing MATS could do, he was expecting a shot to his right, as Torres probably intended.

Also, that save to Griezmann is a bit over appreciated, shot was rather slow paced, despite good placement. I would have expected every decent/good keeper to get that.

But he is indeed solid and focused and banished all the "fog of uncertainty" from his game.

6 Ballons for Messi

but what if he wins 7??
The nutmegs to mats and bravo are not the same.
Mats had to come out of his net a bit and torres had an open path to send it wherever he wanted, it was the right choice from mats to make himself big, only a bad goalkeeper would close his legs there, remember neuer against neymar in the 3-0, he did the same thing.
Bravo's nutmeg on the other hand was from a tight angle, all he had to do was to take care of his corner and mind his legs and he failed.

MAtS has done a great job recently and Bravo has not done as well recently. Ronaldo's goal was preventable (although the biggest blame goes to Dani Alves who should have realized that he could not jump high enough to reach the ball) and there was another situation where he almost bobbled the ball. In Chile's game against Argentina, he was beaten by A di Maria with the right foot. The shot was well placed but not very hard and I think MAtS would have stopped it. I am sure Lucho has some difficult decisions to make!

Neither the conceded goal was his fault or his save spectacular, but his distribution was on point.

The rest of the debate is built on a lot of assumptions

For some reason nutmeg goals always happen in pro football matches but you rarely see it in amateur games imo, just hits the leggs usually. Same with deflected goals for some reason.

It happens in pro football because keepers have a lot of space to close down and they take that risk, as strikers go for corners, it's both instinct and training from a junior level (i can personally vouch for that).

As for deflections, pro football is rather crowded, the time frame to get a clear shot is narrow so this is likely to happen.
