MAtS has talked to the journalists. Said he couldn't say anything atm about next season or the reasons why he doesn't renew. The decision hadn't been easy but he had taken enough time to think it all through and made up his mind over Christmas. Teared up when asked how hard it was to decide against BMG, said he was still "Borussia" and owed a lot to the club.

Thanks for the summary. Though I didn't ask for it, I was hoping one of our german speaking members would translate it. And yeh, he did appear quite emotional. Must be hard for him, and for the BMG fans.

Well, the Fans like him, cause he's a Borusse throught and through.
Though, there've been some that were nervous and thought he should've announced something earlier, but that's going to happen during the age of the internet.

I can't really tell you anything personal about him, because he keeps his private life to himself(I'm also living about 400 kilometer away from Mönchengladbach) and hasn't ever been in the news about anything but football.
So he's an absolute pro in that regard.

His nickname = MATS, like someone else already mentioned.

BTW: He still won't announce anything and I just hope it's Barca he'll join this summer. Cause A) that would net us a nice transfer fee and B) I don't want to see him staying with us till next summer and leaving for Dortmund on a free transfer....

Well, if you could believe express.de, Eberl is asking for 20M...

Though, it's express and hardly reliable but still, I think the game's on in regards to negotiations.

BTW: Eberl told reporters yesterday, that they still haven't been contacted by any club, but he believes it will be the club everyone's talking about when it comes to MATS transferring.

He also stated that there's no opt out in ter Stegen's contract but that they've promised him two years ago that if he'll bring one of the top clubs that would pay a certain amount(in double digits) that they would talk and let him transfer.
And given that pretty everyone of those top clubs(Milan maybe being the exception) is settled at goal, I think there's no way that he'll go anywhere but Barcelona.
