Well, if you could believe express.de, Eberl is asking for 20M...

When the contract is to expire in a year, the power shifts to the player, who can insist on his choice of club, or risk losing him for nothing the following season. It will be a take it or leave it offer from Barca, failing which Reina and Pinto 'll suffice for a season, with Mats gaining a year more experience with his club, and then joining us on a free. ;)

Having said that, I hope all parties can arrive at an amicable solution, at the earliest.

Both him and Reina have strong character which is ideally what you want from a keeper....if they both come the only concern I might have is whether the competition to start is productive between them and nurturing rather than a potential distraction

That's my concern as well. G.Keeping requires an extended platform, in order to establish communication with the line of defense. Either, club thinks he's ready, and brought in to instantly take charge of the goal posts, or just allow him to mature elsewhere. The thought of being displaced following a poor showing, is just added pressure for a newcomer, and could impede his process of adaptation. Rather affording him the room for error, whilst reposing faith in him over a protracted run, IMO, would facilitate better his assimilation. Someone like Reina, may deny MAts that platform. I'd rather, we stick with Pinto for back-up, and have a cantera succeed the latter.

Cud we not just renew pintos contract have him as a sub hes more than happy to be on bench and play the odd game and have him as back up to mats, reina could come in to and have the impression hes to gd 4 the bench

Yeah but I'm not happy with him being on the bench. Reina would be told in advance that he'll be the second goalkeeper so I don't think he'd changed his mind once he's here.

Reina is the same kind of person and I don't think Pinto is a good back up anymore. He plays every cup game and if ter Stegen isn't an immediate success or he injures himself like Valdés did a couple of weeks ago we're stuck with Pinto playing every game.

Also is he not pretty much looling to leave liverpool cause he was on the bench would be same here id say he would most likely move to napoli permanently also pinto would b a lot cheaper wages which in turn frees up a bit mpre to go towards another new player for first team

Um
Eberl told all the reporters that ter Stegen does not have an opt out in his contract but that they agreed upon the club allowing him to transfer two years ago, if

1) ter Stegen finds a premier club in Europe ---> Barca
2) if said club is willing to pay a certain amount of money

Express certainly doesn't know what they're talking about(they hardly ever know a thing before it happesn) and it won't be 20M what ter Stegen will net Borussia.
Though Barca just throwing a number as low as possible at Eberl and expecting to convince him that way's is not going to be the way it's going to happen.
It's more likely to be a transfer fee somewhere between 12 - 15M that will paid fully or with some bonuses.

Yeah, I think business between German clubs tends to be less of a circus and I'm sure there's mutual respect there as well

On the one hand, Reina would be a perfect tutor for Mats because of all the obvious (La Masia, La Roja and Liverpool)...Knowing the club and what is expected in Catalunya will undoubtedly be a smart move in backing up the young German...Ideal even, IMHO...But Reina is also the same age as Victor and in many ways still in the prime of his career along with a larger than life personality & spirit of competitiveness...I think he'll be a positive character to add to the squad in that regard, in fact...But the one area where I question is how a competitor like that wouldn't be compelled to be a starter at his hometown club...Can they summarily promise Mats he will be the #1 or future one?

Or will he be right away left to the bench for a year or two, eventually pushing for a loan or transfer?...When Pinto came, it was slightly different context and no one looked at him as a legitimate contender to start - even if he ended up exceeding everyone's expectations (One of the great signings for the club, btw)

I think it should work out but there's a part of me that thinks there's a chance it could all go sideways too

Someone said Curtois makes less saves than Stegen. Does that really matter? I mean Barca goalkeeper isn't tested that much normally.
Stegen will have to go on for long periods just standing there. Does he have the mental stamina and concentration?

It's something Valdés had to learn as well. He made a lot of mistakes in his first years because of the concentration issue and people labelled him "a bad keeper". I think if we stick with Ter Stegen long enough he will learn it too. But of course it would be better if he is able to keep his concentration up from the start.

I guess he sorta confirmed that they are working on drawing up a contract with us. Good.
