They were just four examples I plucked out my head to be honest of the difference having a better goalkeeper can make without really thinking too deeply about it. PSG for example got better when Navas went there too and that's much closer than 20 years ago.

My first team (Aston Villa) has a better keeper than Barcelona in my honest opinion and the difference he made to us was massive.

all the examples you've mentioned are of worse or far worse keepers than ter stegen.

being good at aston villa does not equals to being good at fc barcelona. as villa is neither battling for trophies or playing CL KOs every year.

for better or worse, we won a treble and a couple of ligas with ter stegen in goal. sure, there are better keepers out there. but he is no kepa that our first priority would be to replace him. and the better ones are at teams that don't sell.

Being good at Aston Villa gave us more points than last season, 14 clean sheets in total 4th most saves in the league. Now you apply that to Barcelona, a keeper of better skill would be saving Liverpool's second, Juventus 2nd and 3rd goals in crunch moments in big European games.

I won't even begin to speak about his distribution against Bayern last season.

Ter Stegen to me is okay and nothing more.

I don't see many big saves in crunch moments, or generally commanding his area in any game, gets beaten at his near post too much, is very suspect at collecting crosses and is quite often just frozen on the spot as a shot flies past him.

i repeat. have aston villa won any titles with him in goal? or have they competed in the CL? your examples are all over the place.

picking and choosing performances like vs bayern so that it suits your agenda doesn't mean anything. is that why we conceded 8 vs bayern? because of stegens distribution?

considering our track record with GKs he is more than ok.

We have competed in the CL/European cup and we actually won it before Barcelona. My examples are how a better keeper can elevate a team regardless of their position. Relegation to safe, euro place to league winners etc.

Also I don't have an agenda, I just don't rate him like you do, simple as that. I also think his distribution did lead to some goals that night, it was fucking horrendous.

mate, i wasn't bashing aston villa. they are a big club, domestically and at an european level. was just pointing out that fighting relegation or pushing for european spot is not the same with playing high pressure games vs the best teams/players in the world.

i also don't have an agenda on praising ter stegen in here. i've always said that he is an ok to good keeper for us. it's just that lately he's hated as if he is the worst GK in the world. that's even more surprising when we had lots of clowns in goal over our recent history.

Recently I had this thing, looking for 1st page in some of our players/coaches thread. And

I mean damn, MATS had bright future indeed and he was correct.
But he basically described some things that he literally became the opposite.
Amazing how times change
PS: nothing against kaddel11 btw.

You made me curious. I had him figured out early. This from 2014.

I didn't expect him to receive goals like Pinto. He'd better be careful, cause if you concede goals like that one in CL, you're toast. Imagine Chelsea at 1-1 on Camp Nou, they'll park the f..ing Boeing.

https://barcauniversal.com/can-gianluigi-donnarumma-replace-ter-stegen-at-barcelona/
Here's another pretty good article from barcauniversal.
I see no problem with Stegen, but if there is a good alternative available I'm not against trying a switch.
I've seen some say Donnarumma is a good replacement.

Donnarumma (Since 2015):
Goals Conceded: 228
Goals Conceded per 90: 1.09
Save percentage: 73.6%
Post-shot xG per Shot on Target: 0.29
Post-shot xG ? Goals Conceded: +10.3
Percentage of passes launched (Excluding goal kicks): 32.7%
Percentage of crosses stopped: 8.6%
Defensive actions outside penalty area per 90: 0.47

ter Stegen (Since 2014):
Goals Conceded: 166
Goals Conceded per 90: 0.92
Save percentage: 75.7%
Post-shot xG/Shot on Target: 0.27
Post-shot xG ? Goals Conceded: +11.3
Percentage of passes launched (Excluding goal kicks): 23.4
Percentage of crosses stopped: 9.4%
Defensive actions outside penalty area per 90: 0.72

He is bad, but still there are 7 players to get rid before him. Se queda.
Also there is no much good keepers that we can bring.

De Gea is questionable, to big salary for any club in corona.
Maybe we can bring Kepa, and I would not be surprised if one day in future, this crazy club will be after him.

Um what? These are two terrible options. De Gea is as overrated as Ter stegen, wihch is why at one point i was happy Madrid were trying to sign him. All good in the end cause we got that fax drama.

Kasper Schmeichel is everything Ter Clown wishes he could be

don't waste money on a new GK... yet. fix the damn CBs first then we'll see.

MaTS is pretty bad, overrated for sure but with a decent defense in front of him he'll do better. just imagine trying to organize those clowns as a GK
