Milan won't sell.

David de Gea

Unless he turns it around and starts performing at the level so many including Barça, German NT GK Coach, Bundesliga followers since his Gladbach days etc...expected him to perform and realize his potential.

Might even take Courtois at this point even though he's not that great playing the ball out of the back

Neither will sell. I think it is wishful thinking on our part to think either will force their way out, especially Courtois, since Chelsea is doing fine currently.

Let's just see how Stegen does this season. Big games are yet to be played. If he does well in this 2 weeks and we win both games we are fine.

De Gea almost forced his way to Real Madrid because he wanted to be close to his GF and family in Spain.

Courtois also several times stated he likes Spain more and don't intend to stay at Chelsea forever.

So there's definitely a possibility there for both of them if we're ready to pay 35-40m.

Obviously we need to see if ter Stegen starts performing at the level expected of him first.

He need to cut out the mistakes he makes all the time and for once make a right decision and save.

Sure he's not helped by the defence, but then the defence is failing, the GK is supposed to provide some help. Save 3 or 4/10 shots. That's not too much to ask for.

Ter Stegen is barely saving 1 shot.

Is there any chance we get De Gea? Seems like just yesterday his transfer to Madrid fell through because of a fax machine. That freakishly talented kid at Milan could be an option, right?

Agreed on Ter Stegen, but I don't think De Gea and Courtois are realistic, certainly not at the 35-40m price mark. That price won't even get them to move their eyelid.

We are a top 2 club in the world

I hope you are not serious, gas. Not everyone is aspired to join us or Real Madrid, despite our status. It is kind of arrogant to think any player (bar die-hard Real Madrid fan players) would just heed our calling at the moment we show some interest.

Plus, Milan has no incentives whatsoever to sell him. He is considered a future pillar for them.

Milan will never sell that kid.

And his agent is that fat rat Raiola so any reasonable transfer fee is out of question.

I'd take De Gea is a heartbeat though, if United don't qualify for CL this year we definitely would have a chance.

The best keeper for us is one who can keep the ball out of the net.

That's something MaTS seems to be having a very difficult time with, even when it comes to simple situations.

Plenty other teams can build from the back without needing to have Xavi on goal.

We hardly make proper use of playing from the back anyways.

We just pass between the back four, pressure comes, boot it to tightly marked Neymar

So much playing from the back :puke:

We can't get Donnarumma.
There is some cultural thing, how Spanish players will always pick Real or Barca as their firts choice.
How Germans will usually pick Bayern over other teams.
How Brasilian superstar Cfs will pick Real/Barca over other.

About (top) Italians, they are the same as Xavi/Iniesta/Puyol, Spanish or German guys.
They won't leave a country unless the club forces their exit, or if some insane bid comes.
More or less all Italians play in Juve, Milan, Roma or Inter. Verratti is more or less the only exception.
Playing in Juve or Milan is like playing at Barca/Real for other players.

Donnarumma, I can see him only staying at Milan, going to Juve or in some insane case to some foreign team who will pay like 100M.

De Gea is a Spanish.
He wants to come back, this is his culture, his home, his league, his climate.
He is quite a realistic option.
Curtois is less realistic than De Gea, since Spain isn't his default home, but he lived here and he is willing to come back.

My personal estimation about availability of these 3 mentioned Gks for Barca's transfer:
1. De Gea 80%, for a 50+ M fee
2. Curtois 50%, for a 50+ M fee
3. Donnarumma 5-10%

About Mats, if he'll continue to play like this, we have all learned a nice good old lesson:
"Don't fix what ain't broken"

This spring and summer (2016), majority of people here were constantly saying that Bravo is NOT a better Gk anymore, and that him and Mats are almost on the same level.
And since Mats is younger, this choice was supposed to be a no-brainer.

Well, it seems that majority of us are realizing that Mats is surely not on Bravo's level.

Who knows, I would personally take Bravo back next summer (if he'll have problems at City, for example).
Anyway, a good old video when we actually had a safe Gk, who wasn't showboating, who wasn't trying to please the crowd, who wasn't creating chances for our opponents out of nowhere with his dribbles and passes, and who wasn't trying to be the next Neuer, but who was=just himself:

A guy who was never loved by our fans (how much he deserved), mostly because he was old, and people never considered him as a long term option. (A keeper whom we can have for a next decade ). Oh, well...

You're absolutely right, it was a big majority. Lucky there were a few who could tell this was going to happen. It just shows that some of us know our football better than others and have a better eye to see how players perform and to predict future performances. You can call me a Bravo fan boy - right about who is going to perform better consistently? We don't get lost on the age of a player or the possibility to have a keeper for the next decade.

Barca needs top performing players today, not a player who might perform at a top level 5 years from now.

I think the MATS fan boys should apologize to the rest of the real Barca fans for their ignorance and lack of foresight.

This thread is a microcosm of why the player chat section can be unreadable, taking the mantle from the Pique and Messi threads of 2013. I imagine it must be cathartic to say sell this or that player after every game but its evident to anyone that takes a step away from the narrative that exists in this bubble that the majority of what is being suggested wont happen and will only lead to mass aneurysms to those involved when he signs a new contract. Now that Arda's thread has normalized, animosity doesn't actually need a new stronghold.
