Wow, it takes great balls to leave a club when you know they want you and are the best history has ever produced. Gotte give him that respect. On the other hand, I don't understand it. Why would he want to leave? Is it really just looking for new challenges, not enough money aka another team promises much more? From all the players I would have never thought that Valdes would leave.

He was always loyal to the club, therefore, in all fairness to him, his statements should be taken at face value for now. In half a year, we'll see where he'll end up anyway so it can be reassessed if the intention he declares really is his intention.

Also, while the timing for his announcement is bad, announcing this at the end of the season or later would have been worse.

I don't agree...If we're to believe the early reports on negotiations, the club wanted to wait until the end of the season to announce it jointly...To leak it out now benefits whom?...Only the player/agent...Very douche, IMHO

Gotta wonder what other issues were at play because this is particularly odd or heavy handed from a cantera player...I can't see how it won't turn the fans against him if not the club or coaching staff which would expedite his exit...Perhaps that was the goal?
