I am a silent reader on this forum and seldom post here but this latest discussion on Messi's importance forced me to write something. I have seen this same discusion on various forums at different time and the low footballing brain some people have never ceases to amuse me.

1) For those saying if we didn't have Messi on our team, we would have bought other players to score goals and we would have been almost as good.

This is such a ignorant point to make. This would have been true if Messi was there just to score goals for us, but he isn't. If Messi was not around, we would not only need to replace him with another great striker, but we would need to change the way we play. Who can say our possesion football would have been as good without Messi? We play possesion football, even our 10 years old team plays exact same way, even Arsenal in some sense play in similar way. But what makes Barcelona so much better than anyone? Because we have Messi. How many times have you seen us struggle to score even though we have 70% possesion or more? This is exactly the point some people seems to be missing. Messi just don't score goals in Barca, he makes our possesion football effective. We could buy another top quality striker in Messi's absence but team bunkering against us will have a lot more easier task to deal with us. Hell, even if we swap Ronaldo( supposed 2nd best player in the world for many) for Messi, we would struggle to win as many games. Messi don't only scores but his dribbling abilities and his passing makes it possible for us to unsettle opposition and it makes us easier to break these teams down. Without Messi, the team needs to play different game than we do today and this will ask for different players in midfield, attack and defence. Which could result in several of our best players being ineffective in their new role.

2) For people who say '' But Spain win the World cup and Euro without Messi''

Well, yes they did. But do you guys seriously think that the countries play as good football as club sides? How many countries are there who can beat Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Valencia, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Manchester city, Chelsea........ even Levante or Espanyol? CLub teams play more as a team and are better overall and thus hard to beat than National teams. Therefore, you can't say a team winning the World cup or Euros will win the league or CL.

Other thing is that, Spain in World cup showed just how important Messi is to Barca. Sure they won World cup, but they were never as dominating as Barca. They were very close to loose to Chile, lost to Switzerland and won the Netherlands on extra time. That's 3 of the 7 games where Spain were troubled a lot. People who says Barca players won the Euro should however consider looking at the line up of that Spain team as there were not many Barca startes on that team.

I hope, some of you get what i am saying here, and from now on shut the people who speak nonsesense about Messi in any forums.

Not his best game yet he still created some of our best chances. The midefield/ Fabregas and co simply created nothing for him.

he was poor imo.. didnt try at all in the first half... and lost the ball which lead to the goal trying to do a needless dribble when the first half whistle was just around the corner..
he deserves to have off games though, has been carrying us on his shoulders the whole season. real criminals tonight were cesc and alexis. fucking awful finishing. and pep for playing Iniesta on the LW.

well, it is Messi's fault Chelsea scored.

we have lost he game because of that along with Fabregas sucking, Alexis poor finishing and the crossbar and post.

There was not enough off the ball movement from Messi today for me.

I'm sure he will score 4 goals in Camp Nou though.

Barçapocalypse NOW!
Kinda disappointed with him tonight... He couldn't get a shot on goal, his mistake originated their goal, and his attitude was not right, he didn't seem focused at all, probably thinking ahead of El Clásico... But if one person can fix this mess it is him, so I trust he comes with a vengeance next week...

Felt like Leo was lazy tonight, especially during the 2nd half.
There was little he could do. Every time he touched the ball he was surrounded. It was up to the other strikers to alleviate the pressure by scoring, which they failed miserably.

Yup. At one point there were about 6 people on him. We are lucky he hardly gets injured.
