im a big messi fan but he dosent deserve being crowned player of the year although he has a good la liga season the person who has a good world cup and is at top form and lead there country to world up glory should be player of the year to be honest and messi was far from being dominate in this world cup if spain wins it it will be david villa if it is holland then it will be wesley especially since he won the treble with inter.

so who should win? a player who has had a good wc?
sneijder?ozil?klose?muller?schweinsteiger?villa?

47 goals in ONE season and some breathe taking football should do it!

WC is all the way over Euro. Messi had decent WC, but lacked very important thing - goals. If Sneijder, Villa, etc. wins WC, in my opinion they should get Golden Ball. WC -> any other tournaments.

Portugal played like shiet in 2008 and CR still got it so why not Messi. It is based on many factors not just the WC alone. With your logic i think Torres should have won it in 2008 cuz he scored the winning goal for Spain pff.

Remember Italy, GiGi and Cannavaro? They defo wouldn't be there if not WC.

ronaldinho was the best player in 2006 but when he had bad world cup did he win the award? hmm the guys who you just named one of them will win player of the year forget the 47 goals that really dosent mean anything to fifa world cup > 47 goals if this wasnt a world cup year messi would win easily same with ronaldinho in 2006.

Bad world cup, very dissapointing performance. He is a stationary guy, doesnt run much, physically weak, so when he doesnt perform his messi magic he really doesnt constribute much at all. In the entire WC he had one or two good moves and a few nice passes, and missed a bunch of sitters.

Not at all his fault Argentina are out though, Germany where way, way better over the whole field. Dont think messi would have made a difference even if he played his best game ever.

You must be joking? Messi wasn't like disaster, far away from Rooney, Di Maria, Torres and other current WC flops. He had two rly good games where he was just unlucky to score. LOL.... Everything positive Argentina did in this world cup went through him.. He may not have been amazing against Germany but still that is so harsh. Also he was playing MIDFIELD not striker did u even watch a match or just read the english press trying to deflect the attention from Rooney?

He was quite good in the other ones, its not only about making goals. Thing is that the better you are, the more the other team tries to bring you out of the game by putting alot of defenders on you.

But Messi is not a one man show, he plays the best when his team members also plays good and he can play his tiki taka game with them. You could clearly see his skills was way above all players in Argentina, he almost never wasted a pass for example.
Even against Germany he did some really good cut through passes that Germany managed to get a toe on before it put an Argentina player clear on goal. The Higuain free on goal called of offside pass for example.

The only one that was up to his standard in Argentina was Tevez, those 2 were the main reason Argentina got to the quarter finals in the first place.

Messi had a quite WC by anyone standards .. he may dribbled well , passed well but still without a goal means his contribution is more a faded memory

It's Sneijder's or Robben's WPOY to lose .. especially Wes , stellar season and if he add the WC trophy than he won everything there to be won .

as for Messi I'm sorry but scoring 40 + goals doesn't really matter if all you did was win the league trophy
When CR scored his 42 goals his side won the double and he was there to score his team goal in the final (penalty miss aside )

I don't like the fact that the best player of the team that wins the World Cup always wins the Player of the Year Award instead of the player that was actually the best that year (Cannavaro instead of Ronnie in 06 and etc)...it's called the Player of the Year Award, not the Best Player of the Team That Wins the Most Prestigious Competition That Was Held That Year Award
