Yeah Messi needs to play on the right.

I would honestly do this against Milan, why not? We have nothing to lose!!

------------ Busquets -----------
------- Xavi -------- Iniesta -----
Messi -------- Cesc --------- Villa

When you consider the runs to the box Cesc has made, that's not a half bad choice. He scored a few goals from headers last season.

Messi should probably alternate from the wing to the center, the latter which works best in a more open game, since he just get's treble marked vs teams that sit deep and try to counter like Chelsea, Milan, etc.

Might add even more dynamism to his game.

He equalled Di Stefano today, and scored for the 16th time in a row in la liga.
Also top assister in El Clasico, at 25.

Most goals

1. Messi 18@25
1. Di Stefano 18@30
3. Raul 15@37

Most assists

1. Messi 11
2. Molowny 9
3. Xavi, Basora 8

The complete player.

Calma, calma
To be honest, Cesc just should not play in the centre. He gives the ball away too much when the defence is tight (as it will be vs Milan). But the fact that nothing else is working either might mean we can give it a shot.

We could also try 3-4-3:

-Puyol---Pique---Mascherano-
--Xavi--Busquets--Iniesta--
------Messi--------
Alves---Villa---Tello/Adriano

For the Milan game, above all I think we need to keep the tempo high since we are (or should be :)) more threatening on the break.

If I see us in the 2nd leg doing the same slow-build up play; allowing Milan to settle back into defense, I don't know how long I'll be able to watch. At the beginning of the season we were playing more direct and emphasized the counter more especially via Jordi Alba and it worked well in terms of applying pressure, though at the time we were a little toothless at the front.

Stop with that Alves on the wing thing, please. He's horrible in defense and decent in attack, but certainly not good anough to earn a starting spot.

Honestly Alves on the wing is worth trying. In attack he's provided plenty of assists for us in recent matches (which is his only claim to a starting position) and is basically our only outlet on the right side despite being a defender. Defensively he is very poor though Imagine if he didn't have to be limited with his defensive duties (which he barely does anyway) and he can focus on just attacking and light tracking back. He'd provide really good width; and attacking wise, he's in form unlike Pedro, Alexis, etc.

He's more naturally talented than Ronado, but Ronaldo's desire and hunger to win football matches is head and shoulders above Messi. The different in the two teams urgency helps though.

If anyone noticed, the one and onyl time Messi got in behind the Real defence in 180 mins, they scored. About time he stopped pissing around in midfield.

i could cry if i see that once he had space he scored a goal... but this happens only very rarely against big teams... the wings are just bad .. players like alexis, pedro, iniesta need to go into the box more often or at least try to take some defenders on to create space... if i see how messi is standing in the midfield not running into the box when a barca player is on the wing everyone know the wont try to get in

He's not pissing around, he's trying to create something when we are playing poorly

for Alves Haters.

Dani Alves directly assisted 72 Barcelona goals (5th season, ongoing)... That's more assists than Ronaldinho (62 in 5 seasons at Barca).
33 of the 72 went to Messi!

Messi comes back to midfield because he's tired of getting no service up front because he makes zero effort to provide a target and the midfielders are afraid to pass to a motionless stump with two centerbacks standing off his back ready to poach him.
