Messi will mostly end his career with most goals and assists in both UCL and La Liga. I don't know how many more assists he needs to give in ucl to reach that target but he will definitely reach there. Some people might still say he is not the best ever but there is no doubt that he is the best player in club football history.

I don't particularly mind Ronaldo being there with him since messi has 2 years on him, Ronaldo's being there with him is essentially inconsequential.

Just proves statistics tell only a part of a story. Yesterday Messi gave several amazing key passes, Ronaldo gives maybe a few of those per year.
Him having many assists is really a good statistical performance but it doesnt mean much when it comes to overall vision/passing/passing, out of that top 5 it is Messi/Özil/Giggs with the best vision.
