In before Ronaldo is better than Messi

In before Ronaldo will never have the magic of Messi

In before 3 more pages of arguing back and forth

No worries. Messi will beat it soon again.
Not playing like he has been, or with this incompetent board not making the proper transfers business moves etc or with a coach who doesn't kick Messi in the ass to get him pressing and hungry again, and if not bench his ass when needed. Until all that happens, I'm afraid people will be in for a rude awakening.

The disgraceful mishandling of Messi's injury has now come back to bite the Club on the behind.

Two years ago Messi was out of sight, 73 goals, put to bed any competition with Ronaldo. gradually the tide has changed, Messi's had off field problems and he's gone well off the boil almost similar to Ronaldinho. To be that talented and then look a shadow of your former self is simply unacceptable.

Unless he sorts himself out next season after the World Cup is out of the way, Ronaldo will take all Messi's records and have the last laugh. The Barcelona board can take a massive amount of flack for their handling of Messi though, Real would never ever treat Ronaldo like that.

Sell Messi, buy CR.

All jokes aside, Cristiano is comfortably ahead in the race for the Golden Ball anno 2014. Already has more goals, breaking Messi's record in the CL (a huge record that it), and more trophies. Ronaldo could easily end up with a double or treble. Then Messi would have to lead Argentina to glory at the World Cup, which isn't happening. And Ronaldo isn't going to get injured like Messi did in the end of 2013, and even if Ronaldo did get injured, he'd still have bigger margin in trophies than Messi had in 2013.

Soon it'll be 3 Golden Balls to Ronaldo, and 4 for Leo. Ronaldo is slowly, but surely getting there. Leo is no longer the consensus best player.

The record doesn't mean a shit. Messi still has more goals in Champions league than Ronaldo has and Messi is going to surpass Raul's record next season. Messi also has more goals in 2014..

You're delusional. And you're nitpicking. Messi has only scored 2 goals more this year (club+country), that's NOTHING in the voting people's eyes. Add the fact that Ronaldo will likely end up with 2 or maybe even 3 trophies, then those small goal differences between them wont mean anything. And yes, Ronaldo breaking a record like that will be remembered like when Leo tied it (Leo never broke it). It's an impressive feat scoring all those goals in just one CL season. Messi breaking the overall record wont be enough to makeup for the aforementioned.

cr won the bdor this year, winning 0 titles last season. Even with Messi winning la liga. Their form around october, november will probably be the defining factor. Unless Argentina wins the wc.

I agree with Frejsgodes that CR has closed down the margin of current play between the two but should Messi break the overall CL I do think it will be just as big as CR single season. It will all go down to World Cup and if CR continues leading Madrid to trophies this season end. There is much chance for Messi to make up ground and bring his form back, but it will be close again for Balon d'or.

I don't think its a debate who is the better player at the moment.

Messi can bounce back though, I expect him to next season.

Also guys it's not just about winning trophies that holds weight (or shouldn't at least) it's more about how much contribution that player brought to the table during those trophies that matters, or should matter. As it stands CR is really contributing big time to Madrids spell whereas before he kind of disappeared against the likes of Barcelona.

Messi's not winning the World Cup, so I think a player with star power like Ronaldo winning the Champions League will be enough to get him the Ballon D'Or regardless of what happens in 2014-15.

Ronaldo will also break the overall CL record, he's only 1 goal behind Messi and he has a final left to play in this season.

Yeah, Ronaldo winning the treble will certainly have a big impact on his BD chances, but the WC looms large. As long as Argintina doesn't win the WC and Ronaldo has a decent performance in the WC, I think the BD, as well as the UEFA Best Player Award is his to lose. Even though people do have a short memory, but a treble winning season will have people remember Ronaldo in November, even if he has an average WC and the start of the 14/15 season.

The World Cup can decide the Balon D'Or. If Neymar has a great tournament and Brazil win the title he could take it same with Iniesta and Spain, or even Costa could take if Atletico win the Champions League.

Messi's problems have been blown out of proportion, he will be fine and soon everyone who doubted him will look pretty stupid. People built up Messi now they are knocking him down that is the way it goes, but Leo is the greatest player in history and by far the best in the world right now and it goes to show how stupid some people are that the latter is even questioned at this point. We just have to put up with it for a little while as when Messi is back on form everyone will see the difference between him and the rest is huge.
