The contract renegotiation was the board's idea, not his. He stated multiple times that he doesn't want a new contract.

Do you really believe it? That they would double his salary after one year to burn 10 mil/yr?

And Neymar wasn't better paid. That 40 mil was just part of transfer fee. It's not different, when some 3rd party gets partial ownership of some player, except this time Neymar (or his father) was smart enough to get such good contract with Santos, that he was guaranteed to recieve more money from transfer, than Santos.

lewl @ people making excuses for Messi's performances
I think many people in here actually have, by saying that its the teams fault etccc. Its his fault also, nobody has said its only his though, his just held to a higher standard because his the goat when he plays amazing.

If he has a great game, he will get praised, if he doesn't, well people certainly have the right to criticize him. The WC is coming in a matter of weeks, I hope his ready and has an amazing performance, I and many people who are fans wish he does though.

How was it a shitty workplace? Messi even got himself a coach from his hometown. Board made mistakes but it hardly affects players. Why wasn't Messi upset when Laporta laundered money in Uzbekistan and Brazil? It's silly.
Take a look at other clubs and what environment players have there.

Tax evasion, Neymar getting paid more than him, his buddy Abidal getting kicked to the curb. All this season.

There was no deal among neymar and santos, so he would get more money. There was a fuss in santos when they found out neymar got 40m to sign for barça. You should at least get the facts straight before making such claims.

But better than the rest ???
No, not really. All you mentioned also had a bad second half of the season. Cesc and Neymar were two of the worst.
The problem wasn't the players, was the way of playing.

What are you talking about? Santos knew since the beginning, that other party got 40 mil. They recieved just 17mil, while the fee was reported to be 57mil since the beginning, do you think they did not notice the difference in price? It was always known, that Neymar rights were partially owned by some 3rd party, like many other players for example Kongdobia from Sevilla went to Monaco, but Sevilla got just half of money for him, they rest went to company that owned 50% of his rights. So with Ney it as that same, the only difference was that sad company was owned by his dad. Maybe they just didn't know that this company was owned by his father, but I don't believe it. So why did they complain? I believe it was just an far fetched attempt to get more money for one of their stars.

Also my post earlier : My conclusion is, if you want Messi to start running and pressing there is only one way to do so. And that is when only Messi himself wants it. Bring all the coaches in the world, but if Messi doesn't want it. It will never happen.

And if this is true then we are screwed. If a coach comes in and tells Messi to play on the right or to contribute to the pressing for example and he says no then we really are screwed. He will have become bigger than the club and now the success of the club is completely down to Messi, if he plays bad we lose if he plays good we win......and he generally gets shutdown in recent times against a great defensive team.

Really? Source please. This is really peculiar indeed (a little like the size of Swiss Perch).

This contract renewal now being rumoured to be put off until after the WC?...Peculiar
This is looking really weird. There are a lot of ungrateful cules against him and wanting to seel him, claiming he got a raise and still didn't show in the game vs atletico... It doesn't look good at all.
