football looks so easy when you see him play. When I saw Ronaldinho as a kid I thought how easy it must be to become a football star. This is incredible. I once saw Xavi playing when I was younger and I watched him pass the ball around, only short passes and I thought why he is so successful because he was not able to perform like Ronaldinho. Only when you are a little older you realize that these players are so incredibly gifted but they still make it look like it was nothing. I love football, damn.

Very few things bring me more joy than watching my favorite players displaying their talent in some unbelievable play. I had a smile from ear to ear after that Messi play.

Amazing. Who wasted his pass? I don't remember, but it looks like Palacio.

Yeah it was Palacio.

I was looking all day for the gif of Messi cleaning up those 2 Swiss players by himself on the left wing without success. So I made it myself. Enjoy

My bad. I couldn't find a good quality source video and I'm not gif making expert, hence why I spend so much time actually searching for the gif instead of making it myself.

Thanks for the better quality one.

'This can only be done if we're all together, if we have three or four players around Messi, close to Messi.' Apparently that's what the Swiss coach said... All the accolades and praise as the greatest ever goes against Messi as it has lead to some excessive marking.

Here's a good article on Messi and Argentina and how he is being asked to do too much. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...a-burden-for-Argentina-at-World-Cup-2014.html

I love this last part: “I don’t think the team depends on me, far from it,” Messi had said before this match. “We are a quality team, so I am only a part of this.” He was modest. And he was wrong.

Maradona: "Argentina can play a lot better than they did so far. Messi is out there on his own. He can do a lot, but not everything." [rts]

It's remarkable how much Messi has delivered so far in this tournament. He's dragged an unbalanced and underperforming Argentina side through each and every single match. He's behind every decisive moment, every creative spark, and does so regularly despite the amount of adversity he faces (parked buses and 3-4 men marking him is becoming an average standard for Leo).

For the sake of Argentina, Sabella at least has to keep the platform running well in these next crucial matches. Messi is the one pulling a rabbit out of the hat at each turn when no sane person can dare expect him to do so watching how Argentina approaches each game so dysfunctionally. The close call against Switzerland should prove that being so managerially careless is too insecure for title hopes. He pretty much banked on Messi's brilliance and Di Maria's tireless lungs to get a victory against the Swiss, a victory that had to be hard earned and dependent on luck much more than ability. He needs to make sure the team is well prepared for each match rather than relying on individual heroics or late changes, Messi's and Di Maria's brilliance should come without burden otherwise it's all up to chance. Taking Gago off for Perez can easily prove to be the biggest difference and it's as easy as putting a square peg in a square hole. No one is asking for rocket science from Sabella, just that he can make this change.

It is truly unbelievable what he's doing right now. I've always supported Spain but not this year. Before the tournament started I shouted out my allegiance towards Argentina this time. Spain had won it all, it was Messi's time now. And all those bullshit calls of him not performing for Argentina? Well there you go. He is single handedly taking a pathetically under underperforming team into the last 8. That sounds cliched cause people use the word single handedly very loosely; however this world cup has been the epitome of what that word defines.

I'm so terribly upset at how little his crazy talented forward line is doing, it's absolutely shocking really. Di Maria has been tireless though and props to him for that, but Higuain Lavezzi and the rest of the midfield has been.Jeeez...

Do you guys think Messi can actually do this solo performance to get the cup? My heart says yes, it's going to be one of those tournaments that further establishes him as an alien and a phenom the world has never, and will never see again, but my mind doesn't agree - seeing argentina get knocked out due to the GOAT finally getting shut out..

Even if the world refuses to recognize, it wouldn't be the case with you personally. So don't worry about it too much.
