I dont really follow RMA but from what i can tell CR7 is tbh much more decisive for them lately, especially in big games. We have one player scoring clutch goals while the other one has been gone missing.

Messi can't even touch the ball in the penalty area anymore, while ronaldo gets served greatly from his teammates every game.

Fix that midfield and Messi will score one after another. His finishing is still toprate, he has shown that this season.

I am not only talking about yesterday.

edit: not to mention the astronomical difference in work rate. CR7 is running all over the place in order to help his team while Messi couldnt give a shit.

The difference is that CR7 can stay in the box all night and just focus on scoring his tap ins as he has compent midefielders behind him to create clear cut scoring chances. Messi has to create, score and control possession as our midfield has gone to complete shit. If Messi played like a poacher this season we would be out of the top 4 in La Liga.

Ronaldo is a pure goal scorer these days, his sole responsibility is to score goals and he has become more of a poacher. His goal-scoring techniques are still very good and that's why he is racking up those goals.

Messi's role is completely different and he has a much heavier burden.

That's said, I really, really, really hope Messi will perform well in big games again. Will he ever?

He did vs Juve away. He has too many responsibilities in this team right now. And he shouldn't. All the burden is on him.

But it's different when you play against Buffon

You are allowed only one shot on target against him and he saves it

Why aren't we buying those competent midfielders then?

How about you stick to RW? It would benefit him and give Suarez breathing space, to both benefit. Since Messi has moved deep, it had greatly hurt our team. Why ? because our midfield is weak and garbage, and messi offers nothing defensively, not too mention our Right Wing is non existent. Only sergio roberto on whole RW, too weak. Last year and before that Messi played RW with dani alves bombing foward opened a lot of things up for our team, including lots more space for suarez, who is struggling and is a prisoner in this enrique system

Which is why id like to have Özil(+Coutinho) this summer.
Yeah, their roles are different, they have better midfielders, this n that but in the end CR7 is the one that pushes them over the line in the biggest games. And again the difference between their workrates is huge. CR7 actually cares to run back and defend. If Messi could at least give half a shit and if Suarez did more than press like a mad man forward, the team would be much more balanced + in better shape while defending. Instead we have mostly Rakitic running himself to death in order to provide cover.

If he does that, Suarez will definitely get some breathing space as he'll never see a shot on goal or a significant chance. You pointed it out yourself, the midfield is incapable of moving the ball forward and creating plays, chances. Messi simply has to drop down deep, or else nothing will happen.

The fact that we have no threat on the right side due to not having a proper RB is an issue too.

This team is simply way too flawed. Need a starting RB and two new creative starting midfielders in the midfield.

Ronaldo is a better no9 than Messi. If Messi stays in the box and expects service, he is not as good as Ronaldo. Simple as that.

Cristiano is a great no9 and have several players capable of creating chances and danger for him. He has Modric and Kroos, he has Bale and Benzema/Morata and he has an incredible creative LB in Marcelo and Carvajal.

Real Madrid doesn't have a World Class coach, but they certainly have the perfect squad that plays like a collective with the FBs + Midfield + Wingers contributing.

Barca? Only MSN and that's mostly Messi having to drop down deep. Alba got pace, but his end product is embarrassing.
