Bernardo Silva is a great option imo. Exactly what we need.

Just a note

We still have the same old MSN, who can't defend even if their lives depended on it

We need players who can create and carry their defensive burdens just look at Modric, Kroos

Making a goal saving block on one end, sending a throughball on another

That's what we need. Balance

i don't see Bernardo Silva as a midfielder anyway, but for a moment let's assume he is

With his type of play, he takes risks, hence more turnovers, lost possession than you would have with say "short passing Gomes"

So we need even more defensive cover than before

Bernardo Silva, Coutinho will not give you that

They will not play deeeper when need be

They are the kind of players who are only good when they are in the final third

Just a heads up Gas, there is a multi-quote option.

Doesn't mean every device can use it

Neymar defends a lot, all things considered. The "problem" is actually Messi/Raki/Roberto/right-side, since we don't expect our striker (Suarez) to defend like crazy, on top of pressing this way.

Bernardo/Coutinho playing Iniesta's role (left) can work, imho.

Instead of signing defenders, maybe we should put more pressure and crowd the players with the ball more. Going for compactness is something italian teams do, not Barcelona. They have the discipline and the defending nous to do that, as we've just seen tonight. From watching Barca this season, it seems that this is what we tried to do.

One of the biggest mistakes Lucho made was trying to defend like an italian team does it. Zonally and positionally. It doesn't work at Barcelona. We need to defend using pressing, crowding the areas where the ball is played. What we need to do is block at every cost the 1st, 2nd and 3rd best follow-up options an opponent has at a given point when in possession. We can do that by bringing more players closer to the ball. This forces the opponent to try riskier longer passes, to players that are, or appear to be more free. But they aren't free actually. Because the longer the pass, the more time a defense has to deal with it.

Lucho tries to do exact opposite (i.e brainless pressing)

We are lucky we got him since he was a kid and there is no doubt he would leave us, I feel guilty watching him being absolutely wasted in this system, my biggest fear is that Unzue is our next coach and this is how his carreer is gonna end..

This is not 2010/11 anymore,

Top teams have players who can get out of the first line of press easily,

Pressing still needs to be done, but don't expect it to be as successful as it was back then

Our opponents are better technically,

Even Atletico

Look at Juve today for example, no problem with Barca's pressin

Neymar defends a lot, all things considered. The "problem" is actually Messi/Raki/Roberto/right-side, since we don't expect our striker (Suarez) to defend like crazy, on top of pressing this way.

Bernardo/Coutinho playing Iniesta's role (left) can work, imho.

These guys are chaotic players,
players that take too much unnecessary risks and lose the ball a lot

I'll give a few numbers

Coutinho
disposessed 1.8 times a game
makes a bad control 2 times a game

Bernardo silva
dispossesed 2 times a game
makes a bad control 2.1 times a game

Iniesta
bad control 0.5 times a game
dispossesed 1.1 time a game

So basically this roughly translates to

four times more bad controls = losing the ball
twice the number of dispossessions

Then these guys are not exactly known to be good defensively, whether pressing or tackling just as how Neymar keeps running but he's a poor tackler

With their dispossessions, and bad controls alone we will most likely have more counterattacks coming against us,

You can't have too many erratic, risky players in the same team at once

We need excellent passers more than erratic flashy dribblers

Hard to make a case of him being the best in the world right now to be sincere. (of course harder For cristiano's)

I sincerely believe that Lucas Modric is the best player in the world right now.

Lol trust me Modric isn't even top 10 right now, even Isco with Kroos putting in better performances than him.

Anybody think he might have been playing on with a concussion? He did look like he hit his head on the ground pretty hard after Pjanic's bodycheck.

His left upper cheek was definitely bruised and swollen. He choked this game, I was afraid he wouldn't show up after his great display in Turin reaped absolutely nothing.

We did have 19 shots against the best defence in europe, but only 1 on target so poor finishing and chances in 1st leg too...Juve could've been beaten I think.
