I don't understand what people are arguing about.

Messi does more for his team than Ronaldo.

Look beyond the number of goals.

Ronaldo is just finishing chances created by others.

Messi scores goals, and creates chances for others.

Messi > Ronaldo. Always has been.

Ronaldo has done better than Messi in the big games and that is why he will tie him 5-5 BDs. He has delivered when it mattered most while Messi hasnt.

Not as simple as that and in games where Messi doesnt score or create and Ronaldo bangs in goals against the top teams in CL he is more effective.

Messi cant be the best player year after year on what it is precieved he can do. Have to go out there and do it in the biggest games as both can kill poorer teams.

No he wasn't, that is nonsense. Messi was untouchable from 2007-2013 and since the injury he suffered against PSG in 2013, he simply hasnt been the same.

2014-15 is Messi's best season, maybe only behind 2011-12. I don't know what you are smoking.

Then if he thought he wasn't shooting he shouldn't have decided to foul him. It was a mistake by all means.

Mistake forced by being dragged into wrong areas and given run around by the movement.

That is Barca no one can make that run or force that error.

Seen plenty pens won by Barca won through good movement or passing and forcing issue as well.

A forced mistake requires a player's ability to do something to force the defender to make a mistake , otherwise it's only a mistake.

Ramos's red card in the Clasico is a forced mistake. Ramos thought that he could reach the ball, but Messi kicked the ball quickly thanks to his excellent decision making and Ramos was sent off.
A forced mistake is also a defender fouling Neymar because he can't handle his dribbling and has to foul him to prevent a goal.
In Ronaldo's case it was only a mistake made by the brainless defender.

Messi's a far better technical footballer than Ronaldo, but he lacks the drive Ronaldo has.

How many times have you seen him get the ball in a good goal scoring area, but rather than shoot decides to pass it off to a team mate to either let them score, cross it, or initiate a one-two. Ronaldo's far more direct in that sense, if there's a chance he can shoot, he will. The team know he's the hitman, and they play to his strengths, somewhere along the lines Messi or the Club have decided Messi needs to get the best out of everyone else rather than the other way around.

His off ball movement is also piss poor at times too. Ronaldo is always on the move, even if he's not as quick as he used to be. He'll try and get behind the defence or make the movement to make himself available. Messi can often be guilty of walking around the pitch without a care in the world, or just wondering behind a cluster of the opposition players to prevent getting the ball, in the end he drops deeper to pick it up off the defence.

In my lifetime Messi is by far the best player i've seen, but sometimes his laziness/lack of will to run infuriates me. So good yet almost seems like he's not trying half the time.

Messi's off the ball movement is atrocious, not only poor. He's the only player who runs 5-6 kms per match in the world and walks most of the time. But he's also a genius on the ball and a very clever footballer, I don't know why people want him to change his way of playing if he scores 50 goals per season.

Thats what makes Messi the best ever though, its effortless, hes an artist. Ronaldo is a machine and has managed to keep up with him through pure determination and a drive thats unrivalled in football; hes totally obsessed with himself and his numbers.

saying that though yesterday was infuriating watching him try set up Suarez instead of taking a shot himself

No denying that. His drive is not just to score but also to win! I mean the way he wrecked havoc and spoke against the board when they sold di Maria and Xabi Alonso? Sure it turned out very, very well for them in that they ended up winning 2 more CL and are favorites this season too! But that is some thing that Leo would probably never do! He should have done that when we sold Pedro or Alves or Neymar!!

I also think his best season was 14-15, more complete then ever.
From 2007-09 he was off course very explosive but wasn't the goalscorer or playmaker he became afterwards (from 2010 onwards).
That injury in 2013 changing him is overblown aswell, its the fact that he came back to soon that made him reinjure himself repeatedly in 2013.
But with new diet since 14-15 season that has been adressed, he has been fit and going strong ever since, 16-17 was another great season.

Ronaldo is by far their best and most effective player.

Sorry I can't take you seriously any more. Sure it's your opinion only, but at this point I would rather have the likes of Modric and Isco than Ronaldo. Heck, too bad Messi can't have Ramos in Argentina or Éder to step up when it matters.
Ronaldo was average for the big part of the season, and seasons before he wasn't nowhere near crucial. He's a great player in a great team, but so is Modric.
