10 - Lionel Messi - v5

I actually thought Dembele offered more threat than Coutinho. Did far too many sloppy things of course, and yeah, got bored it seemed of tracking back after about half an hour, but he created a half chance for Coutinho, almost assisted him from a cross, created a half decent shooting opportunity for himself that okay he ultimately scuffed, but he still created it well with good feet. As for Coutinho, who played an extra half too I should add, apart from one blocked shot which may very well have gone in, he really didn't do much at all in terms of creation. Actually no, I've just remember a good cross he put in, too. Maybe a similar level of productivity then. Even so, I'm still expecting more. He's still incredibly sloppy in possession, too. (As is Demeble admittedly, but he's like six years younger.)

I think Dembele has more speed and arguably better dribbling but Coutinho has better finishing and defense.

He of course is. And it has been since Rijkaard.

The club will go into major decline when Messi leaves/declines. He's kept the team competitive post-Pep almost single handed and the club aren't run well enough off the pitch.

Real a lot better placed to handle the post-Ronaldo era because Ronaldo isn't half as good.

The only problem with Messi being so good is it papers over the cracks. Because we're really no-where near as good as our unbeaten run suggests, I don't think. But because we keep doing just enough (Mainly due to Messi) Valverde can get away with it. At least until we meet a decent team in the CL and boom, it's :lol:like late-period Lucho all over again.
Juve , Chelsea , Real Madrid , Atleti aren't decent teams ok keep going

Chelsea completely outclassed Valverde tactically. Chelsea were the better team in both the legs. Only Real Madrid and Atletico. Juventus wasn't Juventus at all when we played them.
Still, we are a sevilla win away from an inevitable double. If we get by Roma we are 3 matches away from a cl victory. I think Bayern, City and Real are better than us though. More of a team. Howeverin a 60/40 type way so we can definitly best them. But securing la liga and getting by roma comes first.

You should really cut it with this Barca is nothing without Messi. Every team in the world would depend on its best player, not to mention the best player ever. We had a bad game but it wasn't only to Messi's absence. Many things were wrong from the beginning.

Anyone who expected that Coutinho and Dembele (or anyone else) could replace Messi is deluded.

I guess we will have to rebuild after Messi's retirement . Just like what United are doing post SAF era . i believe impact of Messi in Barca and Saf in United are somewhat comparable though one was a manager . United never looked like the team that they used to after SAF left

I guess were lucky we can always attract the worlds best players but yeah, I'd say its easily comparable to the SAF situation at United. just gotta hope Barto or whoever is president doesn't fuck up. I'm 24 and ive watched Messi his whole career from 16-present day, feels weird imagining a football world without him now

I think im going to have to stop watching football for a few years when messi retires, it will be such a bad day. the next generation of players arent nearly as exciting as the previous ones

they seem to care more about their hair and celebrations than the game itself
