It's bad, but unless the team goes out and signs another World Class midfielder, got the balls to bench or sell Suarez, you'll see the same next season. He's our only goalscoring threat that's never in any threatening positions because he got to pick the ball up from Busquets instead of trying to stay more advanced up the field.

People also need to look at the big picture. This is an old Barcelona team with only one reliable goalscorer that is also our only reliable playmaker(Don't count Coutinho yet and Dembele doesn't get to play, talking primarily about MFs) playing in a half-assed shit system supposed to strengthen our defence which have been overrated all season.

he doesn't need to pick the ball up from Busi though.. our midfield, while average, are capable of creating chances. we bought Coutinho for this and no doubt next season Messi will still be dropping deep. the next manager needs to have a sit down with Leo, discuss where he wants to actually play and build around that. right now the free role is destroying us in the CL

Iniesta and Rakitic are creating less chances per game than Marcelo, so let me ask you this question, if our two CMs are creating less amount of chances than a team's LB, how capable are they really? Coutinho arrived in January. He's irrelevant to what's been happening in the CLs with us for the past two-three seasons.

It isn't because everyone has to run through Messi, it is because they are incapable of carrying the ball forward so Messi is forced to collect the ball from deep.

The only time we've played decent or okay football with Messi not wandering out the midfield all the time have been with Coutinho and Dembele on the field, but they are NOT enough. We need another midfielder in there. We need an upgrade and we've needed that ever since Xavi left. Iniesta should have been phased out after 2015/16.
