10 - Lionel Messi - v5

Needs to step up, no matter what.

CR7 rarely has to create chances from a deep position. RM does not need him to do. CR7 rarely has the ability to create from a deep position.

All CR7 has been doing is poaching.

Barca in UCL knockout rounds often HEAVILY relies on Messi creating in a deep position on the right wing.

Another factor for poaching is headers for which Messi is clearly way inferior vs CR7.

Your stats basic says CR7 is a more prolific poacher on a team that does not need him to do anything other than poaching. that's it.

The truth is, it won't eventually matter how Messi had to carry Barça (or Argentina) all along or how much Barça had to rely on Messi. History will only remember Messi was not able to score goal when the team needed it and CR's goals helped RM win UCL trophies. That's the fact, regardless of how we feel about Messi. People easily forget about the details unfortunately.

But messi have same amount of goals as a ramos who is defender, there is no excuse for that

He is heavily underperforming in CL, thats damaging for his legacy

I just don't see the drive he had when he was a younger player plus the fact that we've had some pretty ordinary managers and players of late definitely hurts him.

His legacy is already damaged. Like it or not the Cl is the pinnacle of club football. With such woeful stats plus the fact that Ronaldo has absolutely dominated the knock out rounds means a lot in terms of legacy. Stats do not tell the whole story but the history books will show Ronaldo as the more effective player which in most neutrals books means the better player.

So what? Then look at the goals Barcelona have in the CL. If it wasnt for Messi, we wouldn't even get past Chelsea.

What an absurd comparison with Ramos.

LOL what a stupid comparison! And how many SF and finals have we played in last 7 season and how many RM? First of all take their entire career and than make comparisons and secondly saying that Ronaldo scored more in finals or SF in last 7 years is like saying than Neil Armstrong walked more meters on the moon than the crew of Apolo 13.

People will talk about Ronaldo, but poems will be written about Messi

We are a one trick pony team, who's attacking trick has been figured out and easily neutralized (by European teams) after 2011'.

I will give Messi a credit for that.
A part of a reason why his team is trophyless in a CL for years is because of our outdated tactics for the biggest stage.

We are blinded by good results against La liga minows.

2015 was one trick team? With top Suarez and Neymar?

Another thing I don't buy into is the whole Ronaldo is a better leader thing. It's very easy to look like a great leader when your team are losing but playing well and creating chances. We have all seen the sulking Ronaldo when things aren't going his way and if he was playing against Roma the other night that's probably the guy you would have seen

He’s not going to spend more energy than he must until the WC starts now that our season is pretty much over. At least that’s what I hope and it looks like so far.
