10 - Lionel Messi - v5

Aye should just walk about in area of pitch doing fuck all and causing next to no danger to Croatia.

Now now guys.

Yeah, those shuffles and movements would've been real dangerous. While Mascherano dances left/right ponderously on the ball only to pass it sideways or lose the ball trying to find him.

You could put 10/11 Messi in there today, they still lose 3-0. No less.

Can't give too many fucks. Those who think messi isn't of the absolute greats because he hasn't won a NT can believe it.

They are too shallow and result oriented to ever base their opinion on subtle things that happen in a game and who just can't look beyond the surface.

I don't think Sarri would be the perfect choice for that.

Someone like Pochettino or Conte or Simeone would never accept a player like that in their teams for example.

Even pep couldn't exert complete control over him, and he's more a perfectionist than any of those mentioned.

But you have to take the good and the bad with a player.

Now people are saying Messi should have dropped down deep and created something from there. Last match they wanted him to stay more advanced forward and play like a goalscorer.

Guess everything is his fault. He has some fault which is his shit effort, which is a very fair point and alarming for Barca too, he cannot do that more, someone got to call him out on that, but I don't believe Valverde got the balls for it.

at this world cup were seeing how important effort is. some of the big teams are going out there expecting simple wins while the little teams are running everyone close. its probably his last world cup and i cannot fathom how little effort Messi is giving

Messi cried after first match for penalty missed said his mom, now imagine if they win with Nigeria and still eliminated, that penalty will even be more decisive. I'm seriously worried how this fail will affect his motivation to play football in the next years, people who make comparisons with 2014 are delusional, Messi was 4 years younger and not coming from 3 devastating lose and this massive fail, without mentioning his last ko stages in CL.

This is complete nonsense.

We're all Barca fans, but there's a limit.

CR7 is Madrid's only true goalscorer and they wouldn't come close to sniffing the CL without him. Even when he's not scoring he creates space for his teammates.

Can't fathom the fact you actually believe this.

Sure they would. Can I direct you to the CL semis and final this season or the finals of 13/14 and 15/16?

A lot of people (keyboard warriors) underestimate just how hard mentally it is to sustain motivation. It's clear Messi is lacking it. This is what makes CR's form so impressive. He is 33 and still highly motivated with his extreme diet and workout regime.

Messi has won a ton of titles and multiple balon d'ors. Give that much glory to anyone and let me see if they'll still keep their motivation

Cristiano has clear narcissistic tendencies. No wonder he doesn't lack motivation. His life is the narcissist's dream.

This is the first time, in all my years of watching football, that I knew a humiliation was going to occur by watching the way the players looked when they were standing for an anthem before kick-off.

If you watched that, you knew Argentina were broken and lost the match before it even started.

On Croatian TV, ex Barca player and co-host Robert Prosinecki says:

"We wan't talk about Messi, he's by far the best player in the world, wasn't his night though, but nevertheless, the best player in the world."

I don't think he has right to that claim after recent performances. Most talented? Easily, best? He's been losing that battle for three years now. Too fragile minded. In a high pressure situation you'd probably pick Ronaldo over him, at least if you can get the ball to him in the area he will generally make the opposition suffer.

Yes lets all get on the messi bashing bandwagon while its hot. Forgetting all about the fact that his team mates are utter useless. Utter fuking useless. That keeper blunder...to not even hitting the target on an open goal.

Maybe thats why messi feels so demotivated...cause hes know with this team hes done.

Messi was shite. His movement to try and get on ball in better areas was next to non existant and he was an inept non factor on game.

Masch was shite also.

If the midfield is finding it hard to get to Messi in areas he was in he can..... move more to offer better passing options or he can drop and help with build up.

He did neither and stayed in same are, walking around until ball came to him. Then had far too much to do and barely impacted game.

People really think Madrid would have won UCL without CR who had like 15 goals this UCL season? Yeah um hell no.

Yeah and most goals were against minnows and he did absolutely 0 in the finals and the semis. Only thing of note was his performance against juve in one leg and that has conveniently changed the narrative that he is a CL specialist.
