Let's hope Leo scores vs. Tottenham and Inter.

He went missing in quater finals 15/16 and since then the problem has hardly been in the final third, where his responsibilities lie.

he did ok-ish in the 16/17 QF imo, but he really did dissapeared in the 15/16 & 17/18 QF while doing great in the round of 16 on those seasons. With Messi being rested in the international friendlies and being more motivated to win the CL, I'm optimistic he'll do well vs Spurs and Inter.

I'm not saying he couldn't have saved us in 16/17 and 17/18 if he pulled off amazing performances. The point is that we needed saving. It's not his fault that we got dominated as a team.

I thought he was ok in 2017, but he was really bad in 2014,2016, and 2018. We were one goal away from going through in all those ties as well, so it wasn't like we needed him to score a hattrick or something to go through.

MSN all refusing to rest before Atletico in 2016 still annoys me. It's fine to play every game if you're still performing but not when you spend the biggest games of the season walking around and being a non factor.

I don't get why people don't understand that Messi needs at least 4 days of recovery after a tough game to perform at th top level.
I blame the coaches (both Luis Enrique and Ernesto Valverde) for not understanding this basic medical issue. Check the Barça schedules ahead of all CL games where Messi 'underperformed' and you will see that I'm right.
Give Zidane credit for understanding the need to rest his key players (Ronaldo!) ahead of important CL games. Ronaldo performed well after rest, Messi was used to save Barça in La Liga and then was not given enough rest to recover.
By the way, the same was true at the World Cup 2018: Croatia had no chance at all to defeat France after having only 3 days of rest ahead of the Final. Very unfair by FIFA!
It's just basic sports physiology.
Messi is the best player on our planet, but he is not better than others at physical recovery.
It has hurt him at the World Cup 2014 against Germany, and it has made him look bad at critical CL matches, due to coaches not listening to medical expertise.

Blame it on our huge reliance on Messi in La Liga, the need to play him for the majority of the Copa del Rey, and Messi's stubbornness to play as many games as possible.

He only scored against those opponents after they were way past their prime.
Couldn't beat them in their prime :coffee:

Not true, trust me you don't know any better than the medical staff, and especially Messi said himself that he prefers to play twice a week. Also knowing how much Messi runs, playing him every 3 days makes complete sense and he has never been "overplayed". Stop fucking blaming Messi for every game that we lose. We literally lost 1 or 2 games the whole last season and somehow "Messi Messi Messi" is all I hear.
