Peña seems very well suited to Flicks play. One might think there simply must be more to it. Because from our view what can you take away from Peña? He has been lowkey decent, much better than almost anyone expected. Szczęsny has had his mistakes in pretty much every of his first few games.
So what did happen? Might really be that showing up late has made Flick change his mind regarding GK position...
Barça can win the UCL this year. There is the potential for it.
But winners of UCL have outstanding goalkeepers. This is how it is. Take all of them and see if their keepers were not at their top form when they won it.
You will always receive goals in UCL stages, cause your opponents are very good, cause even when you dominate you can't control all the games entirely. Not possible in UCL.
So there will be moments where losing or winning will depend on your goalkeeper being able to make crucial saves.
Tek has proven to be an elite keeper who at top form in top games can be this kind of keeper who can win you games. Pena has not proven that, even if he did good this year.
Maybe that is the reason Flick is playing Tek. He wants him to regain his top form, cause only a keeper of his talent at top form can allow Barça to win the UCL. Otherwise Barça won’t.
If Barça was first in La Liga during winter break, Flick would have kept Peña I feel. But it looked to be lost and Flick needs a deep run in UCL. Otherwise the season will be a failure despite playing beautiful attacking football. Barça needs a big title this year. With the high line, Flick needs a top top top top goalkeeper. And it's logic to gamble on Tek.
