Barcelona have rejected an approach of Napoli to sign Mascherano in January. Barcelona ask 20M, Napoli could make a new bid. [il mattino]

I don't think we can get 20m for him unless Napoli are a bit out of their mind. Specially his recent form doesn't provide a solid ground for Barcelona to ask for 20m. Something between 10m to 15m is what we gonna get max.

Still 20m for a 30 year old midfielder is bit too much. We got him for 22-24m (?) when he was at the top of his game.

20m is not much for one of the best DMs in the world who could also cover other positions. And he's not over his 30s to lower his price btw. It's a fair price IMO.

Agreed. It's not that ridiculous. It may have been a few years ago, but in today's market...

I would rather see us sell Song than Mascherano, IMO. Masch is a better DM, and can at least play CB; so even if he doesn't start he can be a useful utility player when we have injuries.

That, and the fact that he suits us better tactically. A double pivot can be very effective against counterattacks, especially in important away games. His pace, tackling, and reading of the game makes him the DM best suited to deal with counters. Playing him there would also allow Busquets to take on Xavi's role as a distributor.

Napoli payed 12M for a scrub like Albiol and 10M for a slightly above average player in Callejon. There is no reason to think Barca cannot squeeze 18-20M out of them for Mascherano.

As a CDM, Mascherano has a good 4-5 years left in the tank. He'd be a good fit for them, that's also an important aspect.
